Hmm guess I'll rebirth again!

But....why do they stop appearing?
Yeah, those are not tested at all. I just added a handful more because you were all so fast. Just doubling HP for each. Every time I change something the balance can shift dramatically. Lvl 6K Arena was never intended, that is for sure :) Eventually a final balance run should be done, but as long as I keep adding stuff that is a Sisyphus task.

Well, you're trying to rebalance a system where you have what feels like possibly logarithmic costs, exponential passive income, and linear arena income. With damage systems which also combine all three. If you ever found a perfect balance to that I'd suggest you snag a gig at SpaceX and get our asses to Mars.

Another question from a game development angle would be, how much play time do you expect the average person to get enjoyment with this from, and what past that is the "some autist is going to make me create harder monsters to fight"?

Unrelated, I'm already saving up for Necromancer and Necro Ninja IRL... prepping my skulls.

Haus Haus is Immortan Joe IRL confirmed.
Witnessed

Oddly enough when "you have to wear a mask everywhere" was in full swing, I did 3d print a replica of his mask and wore it to a few grocery store trips... I mean.. it WAS a mask.

Really good question... some people are on 24/7, others not so much. I have no idea right now.

I’ve left it run 24/7 just cause I have a seed box and it seems fine how it is to me for a free game. If someone is just throwing it on for a few hours a day they could play this for weeks or months unlocking stuff. Leaving it on for weeks and I still haven’t unlocked those last five monsters. That’s hundreds of hours, I feel like that’s a little overkill for a light user, fine for an autist user…but either way it’s plenty of play time for a free (or even cheap) idle game.

The question is what are you expecting out of it?

Probably leaning more to the casual side. And free. The last five will be tweaked, they just got semi-random hp.

The last five still aren’t appearing for me. I rebirthed yesterday to see if I really did just pass them up before they were patched in or something. Back up to arena 6,000 and they still haven't spawned.

Are they random chance or only appear after a certain arena #?

It's based on arena hit points. 6 is 320M, 5 is 700M... so I'm guessing your arena has between 320M and 700M hp. This will be adjusted eventually.

I don't understand what you're saying here. My arena has 2.6 billion hp

I still haven't seen the final five monsters, I've rebirthed a couple times since they were added.

OK. I have been pondering... as it's something men of my age do....

Does the game know when it's not visible so prone to not being able to render the arena?

If so, and since when not visible there's no point in showing an arena nobody will see, what stops you from simulating the arena? (hear me out here...)

Take a running average of Earl's DPS for the last 10 real arenas he's competed in, take the arena number (and ergo total HP) and calculate a probability Earl would win that arena. That last part is the tricky part as we know if you've watched him that once it's more evenly matched there are variables like "how much target switching due to zap is he doing" that can foil his efforts, but still. I'd say for instance at around 90m DPS and arena 8250 where I'm at he's batting around a 75% success rate.

Once you have that rate, every 30 seconds in background you "simulate" the arena by rolling the dice against success rate. If he wins you increment arena level by 1, and decrement success chance by some amount (like .1%), grant him the pocket change in cash he would have made and wait another 30 seconds.

This would give you the effect and illusion of arena progress even when it was without graphic rendering capabilities. But it hinges on if the game is aware that it's running passive income in the background but unable to render/run the arena.

Yeah, my bad, you got the propaganda numbers. Off by a factor of five. The correct numbers are 1.6B and 3.5B, and you are in between. Btw, there's no chance you will reach the last one before they are rebalanced.

I think it could be detected, but the rest sounds hard :) Players buy new upgrades, enemies get more HP. Things change. But an average income of the last X rounds could be given every 30 seconds. That would help...

Is it really worth it though? I'm currently at arena 4255 after a rebirth, and I have 67.801T/second income, the arena gives me around 2.7B per round. By my (perhaps false) calculations, it would take 25111 arena runs of 30 seconds to earn what I earn in 1 second of passive income. I'm not sure I'd miss the arena money if it froze, I just like to watch my guy Earl blowing up shit, and killing new monsters now and then.

Have you considered putting in bosses for some significant levels reached? Say every thousand arenas? It doesn't change any of the gameplay but instead of a bunch of usual monsters, you fight a unique monster (though you can probably do some color variants to recycle some) where the full arena HP is just its HP bar. Could have a cash prize to celebrate the victory too. Just a thought.

Yeah your passive income gets boosted so much it eventually makes like magnitudes more. Like if I snapshot mine, the arena has made 2 trillion while my passive has made 6 sextillion. Thats with it running full time. I don’t really see a point in trying to simulate that. Yeah it would be nice in the very beginning of the game I guess but once you’ve rebirthed a few times the arena is trivial, no need to run it full time.

Also, I *think* the arena can run full time in a different browser if you’re really worried about it. So run Earl on its own browser in chrome or Firefox or w/e then use Brave for your actual browsing.

Boss monsters are too much work :p I'm sticking to easier stuff or I will never get anything finished. A bonus for every 5th X2 bought (or something) and for every 10th arena reached (I think that one came from you). Something like that. Then maybe more skins. Maybe a win condition, so it can actually be completed (can continue after). Balancing...

Well, nobody buys upgrades while they're AFK/minimized. The "things get incrementally harder" is why you subtract .1% for each win, to reduce their win chances, and add .1% for each loss to represent lower level arenas being slightly easier....

The real goal here is like any idle game, you want to see the numbers get bigger. In this case the arena number. ;)

You could pop in and buy some quick upgrades, then back out. I don't think I can handle that. But... average of dps over some rounds, and then just compare with total HP for each round. Then arena can be increased until that dps is too low. But still needs a few rounds for average dps. And it must be communicated to the player. Fuck browsers. Maybe just include a Windows build and refer to that from the web build. edit: but upgrading would be a bigger hassle than just an F5... it would need to be essentially finished for that to work.
