I'm gonna let this run overnight and see where it "evens out" on arena level, hopefully by morning. Then probably rebirth to cash in the 2400 or so credits I'll have. (Currently 22018 and falling...)

OK. new oddity I have now seen twice in my cascade of out of times. (Down to Arena 21837 now)

On a couple arenas I have gotten the initial witch doctor blast out of the way, had a couple mobs left. Then the faceless would just vanish, but the HP bar would still be over 80B or something. But then when I killed whatever smaller mob was left I would "win" the round with the HP bad still showing a ton of HP left then just going to 0. Odd, trying to watch for another instance of it, but also about to head to bed.

My excuse is Earl'y access :) The thinking was this... it seems like a some point damage has outrun the arena so much, that it is just automatic wins for thousands and thousands of levels. I was thinking of a loop of buy upgrades, gain some arena levels, rinse and repeat. This of course feels really sucky when you are already at these huge levels... What are your thoughts on the bigger picture? I guess plowing through arenas is kinda fun.

It would take you forever to get back from 21K to the intended maybe 5K... my math says 5 days lol (unless you have 'faster arena', in which case it should be 1?)... I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

A few options:
1) fuck it and revert, plowing is fun.
2) drop levels faster on loss to make changes like these feasible and get back on track quicker.
3) keep the change with a slow and painful drop for those ahead of the curve.

FYI, there are not that many players. It would require a new V1.0 release to get more people to try it, so tuning for what is best in the long run makes sense.

Edit: doing a few tweaks right now.

I dont mind it at all. It will just even out and at least for me, it is fun to fight the HP bar again.

Also I have to laugh about your constant battle against our autism. You didnt expect us to be this retarded and poopsock your game.

Oh, make no mistake, I don't mind the change at all. I just found it funny that poor Earl is gonna be walking backwards for a while. And it does make sense if you want there to be more uphill battle rather than it feeling like Diablo where you walk into a room and instantly kill dozens of bad guys.

And I agree, we're in functionally early access and this is when a game is supposed to undergo a lot of massive swings and tuning.

I think the tuning apex point would be to either avoid, or delay for a long time, hitting the point where the arena advancement curve faceplants you, but the cost advancement curve on combat abilities makes it so that you have to think "Well, I'm just stuck at this arena level for a week while I let it run in the background to get enough cash for that next 5 ranks in whatever...". Rebirth helps with this some, making credits/diamonds the real end game currency.

Currently down to Arena 20951 (haven't bought the 5 arenas in a step diamond card yet) and falling. heh I'm curious to see where it finds his balance.

on .61 , Earl looks to be leaving a slow walking shadow following him around, which also slowly walks back to the start point between rounds....

How about a diamond purchasable card that adds "Time is Money". Here's what it does :

When you successfully complete an arena, any remaining seconds on the clock are cashed out to you at your current passive income rate.

It makes winning arenas a little more encouraged, without being insanely OP in terms of money generation. But would also accelerate post-rebirth rebuilding when you're clearing levels with 25 seconds to spare...

There is actually already a time bonus for clearing, but it doesn't do much since when you progress you quickly get to just few seconds left.
Also, with Fast Arena you jump 25 levels if you have 20+ seconds to spare ;) So I agree about the idea, it just didn't pan out how I thought it would.

Not even sure or going to ask how the math under the hood changed up (and yes I read the patch notes). But I loved having around 3x the passive income when I refreshed from .62 to .63
