Yea for me "retirement" is just the freedom to pursue self employment opportunities with essentially zero risk to my family. I'm not particularly risk adverse but I struggle with the idea of going all in on something unproven while putting my family's wellbeing at stake.

I know quite a few of you made that jump successfully, possibly without that assurance, but that's been the hurdle for me personally. My "work" is pretty unfulfilling so the idea of retiring and doing nothing doesn't make sense to me. Id retire to do something I consider worthwhile without risk of financial ruin. I guess optionality really does sum it up

I've mostly achieved financial independence. I can absolutely take a much lower paying job and not suffer for it. I have a few financial goals for my kids I want to meet before I am willing to do that though. I think I can pull it off in the next 5 years. Our house is just the right size for 4 so that part wont be changing either.

When the fuck do I sell this thing?!
when u have enough to retire.

pcs aren't going away. the need for compute isn't ever going to shrink. if quantum computing takes off or some new tech, i don't see how nvidia isn't at the forefront of it.

When Cramer tells everyone to buy or says it is going to 300.
Sell signal achieved.

The timing is what's odd to me, heading into Xmas.
They announced these layoffs, while simultaneously announcing that they're going to be hiring 250k in temp workers over the holidays. So I would bet these 30k are in perm corporate positions not the ephemeral and flexible world of their actual distribution employees.

But it's another 30k in jobs that are probably either moving to India in the long term, or evaporating all together to be replaced by agentic automation.

Probably the latter. They just announced a $1.6B investment in the Netherlands and a $1.1B one in Belgium, a mix of AWS and AI tech.

Stocks running higher. VIX running higher. Something is gonna break at some point.

This is the ETF I mostly own - every year except 2018 and 2022 is better than the current year, why is it this year that something is gonna break at some point? I mean I hear 100% what you're saying - can it just continue to go up forever?

My prediction wasn't "year based" as much as it was focused on the VIX and Stonks both increasing. While it can (and does) happen, it usually doesn't happen for a long period of time.

Doesn't VIX just signal volatility, which can be up or down?
