Are Teslas getting pretty close? I assume the other car companies will just reverse engineer their product and make small adjustments to avoid IP theft once it comes to fruition.
Waymo has a functional self-driving taxi service in select metros only: Service areas - Waymo Help
There is nothing even remotely close to the original pitch for the tech, hence my comparison to the difference between AI -> AGI.
It is self driving most of the timeWaymo isn't self driving, it's just dudes from the Philippines.
It is self driving most of the time
Quite from article:
The original version of this article described Waymo vehicles as "switching control" to remote drivers in unusual situations. Waymo says its remote fleet response agents do not directly operate vehicle controls, but instead provide real-time contextual information that the autonomous system uses while remaining in control of the vehicle.
I view current AI as the 28.8 Kbps era of the internet. It was usable and produced an idea of what is possible but it's still way too early for the technology (internet) to really show itself. It's just a waiting game in my opinion. Eventually we will hit 56Kbps and on and on we go.On the AI derail, I have a C Suite friend at Chase who was talking about how AI just isn’t panning out in terms of saving the company money. They had a great AI use case they implemented. They spent a year and a half or so and millions of dollars getting it going. Due to laws around the data it’s using and spitting out they ended up having to ADD headcount because the laws require humans to verify what’s going in and out is accurate. They like the data and got what they expected out of it but the project ended up having a negative ROI due to having to add a small team of people to run and monitor it.
If AI can create jobs then I’m all for it!
