I think folks are missing the point here. This thread has traditionally not been a place where any sort of trolling was acceptable. I'm neither saying that the joke was too much, nor the reaction reasonable, but the point is that this thread is supposed to be taken seriously. Seems that the two main guys enforcing that are MIA these days so I guess do whatever you want.
Mods aren't MIA, and that joke wasn't a troll or insulting or even contentious, it was obvious unless you're a turbo tard like Khane. He's an asshole/retard in a lot of other threads too, and for a long time, so him being shawed for a short time is also hinging on that fact and not just this one thing. He was also butting in for Sludig when he shouldn't have been. Sludig was fine with the joke and had his confusion cleared up almost immediately and the thread is back on track.

Banning any joking completely isn't what the grown up section is about, and never has been. Once again: get a grip, people, this thread is doing fine.

I'm specifically talking about Sanrith and Blazin, not taking a shot at mods fwiw.

In my opinion, as the creator of the grown up forum, the point there was for people to have more serious discussions where we discuss as adults without trolling and personal attacks. There was never a prohibition on jokes, and I didn't see what Synj said as anything approaching trolling.

The irony that the guy who is upset about the "trolling" is the one usually behind the personal attacks is not lost on me.

I will chime in here as the poster child for "pick a few good lost cost ETFs and just sink money in, using it to try to stay balanced.

Right now I'm mostly looking at XLK for my following the tech surge play, and HDV for my "old man's ETF". My current wildcard I'm thinking about shifting but staying in the same industry would be URNM.

But as most mentioned, in general the easy play is to just drop into the S&P and ride it.

This is exactly the kind of shit that does NOT belong in this section of the forums. I love that you have the audacity to call me sanctimonious though, with this horseshit self righteous reply.

Cad Cad you're really the only active mod that I think might clean this shit up.

Just here to laugh at Khane's 10 posts about not shitting up the thread...as he shit up the thread.

Oh irony, lol. You do keep this place entertaining.

WTF happened? Looks like it's down 25% now.

Time to smash that BTFD button?

Missed earnings I think. I watched a few minutes of bloomberg live before the market opened and a couple of guest made the same comment. Tech has been concentrated on building data sites and such and forgot about non AI software. No idea but it sounded like they all got the same briefing.

Spcx also cratered a decent lil bit. Cmon 10 year horizon
SPCX now trading below it's IPO price. Functionally everybody that purchased it after launch is underwater. And there will be more selling pressure as tranches of stock held by people pre-IPO open up for sale over the next year. And the major events that will spur earnings and reason to invest are moderately far off (except for making money off Starlink for the most part, and to a minimum degree hauling cargo into orbit.)

I haven't heard anything since the IPO but I thought before the IPO Musk said he wanted to sell more shares in SPCX shortly after.

That was the goal, plus there are a ton of insiders who had pre-IPO shares which are vesting during the next year. There will be a considerable supply over time. I think he limited the initial tranche because he wanted to prop up value and establish a base before supply went up.

Wondering if anybody has crossed this hurdle before.

I'm about to change employers. New employer is a little startup (I'll be something around employee number 30). They don't currently offer a 401k. So I'll be shifting from a 401k contribution to an IRA contribution of some kind, but it's also mid year and I'm about capped on my 401k contribution for the year (through my current employer).

Has anybody else run through this situation and mapped out the options?

What part has you confused? Just max your your IRA every year which you can do anyway in addition to your current/prior 401k

401k/IRA limits are completely separate so capping has no effect.

It depends on your MAGI and your existing Traditional IRA if you have any. Roth IRA and Traditional IRA have different rules. If your MAGI is too high the IRA won't be deductible on your taxes. If your MAGI is too high you can't directly contribute to a Roth IRA, and would have to do a backdoor Roth. If you are going the Backdoor Roth route, and you already have a Traditional IRA then you have to deal with pro-rata rules. If you want to do backdoor Roth and you don't already have a Traditional IRA, then don't roll your 401k into an IRA or you have pro-rata rules again.

Basically look at the pro-rata rules, MAGI rules, etc. You may be better off just sticking it all in a taxable brokerage account based on your MAGI/existing accounts.

Space X continues to bleed. Well below IPO price now. We haven't even begun the lockup expiration ladder yet.
