Well once again the managers think they see a way to cut people to push up their stock and bonuses, heedless of the long term impact because if anything bad happens they just golden parachute to the next company to destroy. They have tried every angle to make the replace whitey with Poos thing work, from the initial gold rush of hiring Poos super cheap, to running with Poos under white guy boomer middle managers, to the current trend of mixing Poos and AI. At the end of the day, just like in real life, adding Poo to anything only ever makes things worse and metrics/customer satisfaction fall off a cliff. I expect the current new thing to go the same way, because they have not learned their lessons. Namely, if you want to adopt a new technology into your business model, you can't half ass it on the cheap.

They will be catastrophic when used by retards though. We are going to see some truly glorious corporate cataclysms caused by AI in the near future.

Why would they give a fuck? As tech companies consolidate and become more and more monopolistic, you won't have any alternatives. This is already happening but will only continue to get worse as the years roll on. See Apple for an example on how they use their store, flex soft power by slowing updates from app developers they don't like, etc.

Developers can get away with this shit because there are a lot of useless meetings they can just ghost and tons of dead time because management cannot organize time for shit. And at the same time, companies are loath to let someone go who knows how the shit works, because letting a Dev fuck off and half time it (or a senior sysad) is cheaper than trying to bring a new one up to speed. Break Fix/Junior Sysads do not have that luxury, mostly because the moment a bean counter thinks they can get away with cutting you to cut costs they jump at it. Plus even during dead periods you have to be ready to respond to unexpected problems, so you can't just fuck off to another job.
One other part that often gets missed is that when you're packed to the gills with pre-prioritized tasks, there's no room for all those "quick fixes" that people think they're requesting. It either goes to the end of the line or a bunch of other stuff gets pushed. And then any obviously-line-jumpingly-important issue pushes everything. And then everything starts being that important because people feel like it's the only way to get anything done, so nothing gets finished. One of our people requested one of those quick fixes from a vendor a couple of months ago, and his happy, with no irony intended, reply was "sure, I think we might be able to get that done by the end of the year".

It may be different elsewhere, but where I am, I learned early on that responsiveness trumps throughput. It's so common for requests to basically get punted and ignored forever that they don't care as much how long something takes so long as they know someone is actually looking at it. I lose a ton of time to task switching, but that keeps people much happier than the alternative.

Well even the biggest monopolies fall down the shitter (literally) if their customers get fed up, especially if you are providing a product to another enterprise organization rather than to general consumers. Happens fairly often in tech compared to other industries, actually. Like outside of Microsoft none of the OG big boys are still around from the beginning of the tech boom, or if they are they are shells of themselves. Remember when everyone thought Novell was going to be the big shit? AOL anyone? I think eventually it will consolidate to a few, but for now people get fed up with shit support and new companies rise up to compete all the time.

Yea the current job market for US based developers does not seem great at the moment. Start with LinkedIn and local/regional tech recruiters.

I found LinkedIn has a lot of "promoted" and fake jobs. Still it's a good place to start. I did get some solid interviews there.

I found indeed to be much better as the jobs actually seem real.

I don't think Ive ever gotten a reply on Indeed on anything I ever submitted for, ever. LinkedIn has gotten a lot worse over the years as it turned into an actual social media site but you can still get decent leads now and then.
