Is anyone else doing recruitment / interviews? I find it quite entertaining.

We had a guy apply, profile and experience pretty weak, his demands:
- 1 day / week off (payed)
- arrive at 11 on monday and tuesday, leave at 15 (children, not able to work from home before 11 or after 15)
- company car
- various forms of untaxed benefits

When I told him that our proposal was already above market average given his profile, he insisted that the kids were in his wifes name, he didn't receive tax benefits, and hence needed a higher wage.

We politely declined.

8 months after he sends me a message, saying he "felt really good about the interview and wants to resume talks"

I want to send him to the center of Brussels for a full-day assessment. Not that we'll hire him, but really, fuck that guy.

Yeah, I always have people show up an ask for work. I tell them they need to work two full weeks, on time, full days before I pay them. Every one of them leaves and never comes back.

So you do that just to weed out morons who don't understand bi-weekly paychecks?

I do that to weed out those morons, and to weed out the morons who want to show up for a day, make $100, then fuck off and never come back. If I'm hiring you, you better be reliable, and not just for the short term. The people who work for me are seriously loyal. They show up every. damned. day. They all know if they are consistent and work hard, at the end of the job they're all getting a bonus. Loyalty absolutely pays.

I've interviewed a lot of recent grass, no cool stories like the guy in OP though.

Mostly what I find is the quality of education has taken a nose dive for engineering. Maybe 1 out of 20 people seems to have any clue what they're talking about.

I've had to bite my tongue a bit when we get applicants who list things like being their schools champion for gender inclusion and shit.

Reminds me of the time I was on the fence about a kid and to decide if I was gonna hire him I settled on the final question -

"What do you do when a situation stresses you out?"

And the kid replied with "I usually go into the bathroom and call my mom."

"Okay, well, thank you for your time, we'll be in touch."
