I like Kyle Chandler, but this looks pretty try-hard meh. It doesn't look fun.

I could be wrong about the movie itself.

But like I said in the other thread, I'm glad they're trying out different personalities on superheroes.

Not every hero has to be a wisecracking clone of Tony Stark, trying to out clever each other with witty one liners. You say "doesnt look fun", I see "doesnt look like Gen Z ADHD humor". We'll see.

I'm just glad they finally found an actual black superhero to cast a black guy for. Thats progress.

I don't mean MCU-level humor. Ive noticed the more times they say fuck in the promo trailer, the worst the show is. When I say fun, I more mean like Die Hard or Lethal Weapon, etc. Not slap-stick humor, but action-pack without depraved undertones. Either way, I'll probably give this one a shot.

What I posted on the X dot com about it:

I really like both actors and True Detective S1 but trailer was terrible. It just reeks of the same 2020's Bad Robot Lovecraft Country/Watchmen vibes and all the racial stereotypes of that era, small town whites bad/over the hill white hero/up and coming POC replacement.

I don't know if youre just arguing for the sake of arguing, or if you don't get what I'm talking about when I say "Tony Stark clones".

You seem to think its something about the mustache apparently? I mean holy shit Dr Strange is probably the farthest from what I'm talking about.

I'm talking about the rapid fire sarcastic witty banter thing where every fucking line is a joke of some kind. It started as the Stark personality then slowly it took over the entire MCU. Almost your entire list is guilty of it at some point.

Don't get me wrong, its fun to watch. Its the right personality for a few heroes like Iron Man, Spiderman, Deadpool, etc. It just got annoying how they started writing everyone that way.

Because you said "wisecracking clone of Tony Stark, trying to out clever each other with witty one liners". If you're actually complaining about Marvel humor, then yeah that got old a long time ago, but wild to call it a Tony Stark thing.

Stark's humor is more sarcastic/I'm smarter than you/you're all idiots House MD type stuff which is pretty much the only marvel humor I could go for more of. Dr. Strange is the only one that even attempts witty/clever. Most everyone else is usually the butt of whatever the dumb joke is and "they're out of the element this is so wacky!!" bullshit.

You put into words what I couldn't.

I'm a hyuge fan of the comic and the original Snyder adaptation of Watchmen. But, the HBO rendition was not Watchmen. I was talking to a friend about how Rorschach is basically a real-world version of what the Batman would be like, and (at the time) he got very upset with me because his only understanding of Rorschach is him as a white supremist icon or something from the HBO show. I only saw a few scenes of the HBO rendition. And what they did alone to Dr Manhattan is bonkers.

How do you go from this to this?

And holy shit I love Yahya Abdul-Mateen II but much like Aaron Pierre, he can't seem to get cast in any good projects or that there aren't any good projects being made these days.

I read Watchmen comic as soon as it was collected in GN form and it was mind blowing for the time. Zack Snyder's shot-for-shot movie was incredible and I was super excited for the series but literally the first episode it was clear that it was BLM race baiting. DC also has a horrible track record with Dr. Manhattan (and most everything else) in the last 15+ years. Everything Marvel also has sucked since All New All Different in 2007/2008.

Making Rorschach a White Supremist is just Leftist self-radicalizing in an effort to virtue signal. Their politicization has degraded everything about the culture.

Let's hope this is more than it appears but we'll see.

I think there’s a few exceptions to this:

Moon Knight by Warren Ellis (2014) v 1 and v2 are excellent.

Secret Wars (2015) by Jonathan Hickman

Venom (2019) by Donny Cates was a phenomenal run. It was about 2-3 years and had two fun cross over events: Absolute Carnage and King in Black.

Don’t sleep on those! If you want to download the cbr file to read, they’re all available on getcomics.info. I now use the Panels app on iPad to read em now a days.
