The main writer for this show is some fat black moron lady.

Not sure exactly what the rules are in this new universe, but the Guardians did authorize John Stewart to take the ring so him taking it is technically possible and potentially lore accurate as Oa would have the security overrides turned off or edited to allow John to seize it. That, plus it established the ring was out of power for most of the episode when John did end up taking it. I’m more bothered by the fact that this specific lantern ring has the battery capacity of an Iphone and needs charging twice daily.

Of course I’m giving the writers a lot more credit here than they deserve. This episode had the kamikaze bad guy tell the dude from Fear the Walking Dead that “he wasn’t going to self detonate unless he knew it was a Manhunter and not a decoy“ and then the exact next scene with him we have this guy running towards the massive mile long cloud of anti-lantern black fog beeping and detonating before he even reached the fucking thing let alone identify who the Manhunter even was or get in close proximity to her.

...And then we have the fact that for some reason, despite establishing they’ve been trying to fanatically protect the Manhunter for 5 fucking episodes at any cost the Fear the Walking Dead guy has the chance to kill the boss terrorist but he doesn’t because he wants to converse with it and be a decoy to buy her an additional 5 minutes for…? This is the same town that had the ability to orbitally nuke the terrorist at any moment this entire episode.

Some of the fight scenes were pretty cool. John saying fuck everything and walking away because he sees how messed up Hal is and how untrustworthy the guardians are was neat. I laughed at the phone call scene he had with his parents - to me I took it as him mocking their ridicilious legacy obsession but who knows what the writers actually intended. I can’t believe i’m saying this but I also enjoyed the Zoe and John scenes this episode and the dialog they had.

But the entire manhunter plot including the alien assassins were retarded, pointless, and made no sense whatsoever. Zoe demonstrated she had the ability to fake her death and disappear in a previous episode but she…doesn’t. The entire town has the ability and had the opportunity to murder both John and Hal if they wanted to for 5 straight episodes but they…don’t. The Manhunter, John, and the boss alien terrorist assassin spell it out numerous times that the Manhunter is going to do what it needs to do to survive, that it doesn’t welcome death, and that it’s “in its nature“ to survive, yet everything it does in this entire episode feels completely counter to that. I also don’t know how to feel about the fact that Manhunters are supposed to be completely emotionless yet this one is clearly bipolar.

Imagine being one of the most dangerous threats in the DC universe, programed to survive, having already killed one green lantern, and in episode 1 you have some shit kid light your cigarette with the Green Lantern Ring as you fuck him in your truck and you don’t…kill him and take the ring? Hal is arrested in the bar of your fanatics, by your fanatics, disarmed of the ring with you there, and you don’t kill him and John and take the ring right there? Oh, it didn’t do any of that because it…didn’t want to bring attention to itself or have to move out of random shit small town USA to another random shit small town USA?


The writing has been pure ass.

That, at least, makes sense - he was supposed to provoke the boss terrorist into blowing himself up, but wasn't convincing enough.

All the rest didn't make any sense to me either - particularly 'Why didn't you just nuke those guys with the orbital laser ? What's the actual plan here ?'

It's possible that some of the blanks are filled in during the next few episodes though - if this is actually the end of that plot line it's a whole lot of crazy nonsense.

She only got away clean if she was presumed dead. Anton read that play so it failed. Anton and his funky bunch aren't the only people who wanted her dead, so blowing him up just leads to more people coming after her later.

Now that she's dead no one is looking for her. Which is why she's implanted into her "grandson".

Yeah I think Gunn added that part. Makes absolutely no sense to advancing the overall story. He just had to throw a penis in there somewhere. He did it for the children.

No action. Destroys the reputation of the main comic character. The whole thing is like watching a show about reparations and black lives matter.

It's making so much shit up not following a lot of key things from the comics.

It's a retarded story even out of not following the comic lore.

Regardless of whatever main plot line the writers chose did the B plot really require him to drive there, break the nose, drive back home, get the call, and drive a 3rd leg back? Wasn't exactly a prompt response on the lantern call either. Half of this episode seemed like a drawn out sequence because the writers couldn't think of doing the setup in a less convoluted fashion.

Or maybe AI wrote the framework.

Writers Room:

Writer 1: Okay, so John drives 1,000 miles one way to Nebraska and punches Hal. Then, he drives 1,000 miles back home and just as he’s pulling up he gets a phone call by the sheriff that Hal was found dead…

Writer 2: Couldn’t he have just got the phone call shortly after leaving Nebr….?

Writer 1: …Then John drives 1,000 miles back to Nebraska to find a dead Hal with the blood still on his face, frozen, from when he broke his nose.

Definitely the weakest episode so far. If we didn't know Hal was dead from episode 1 I'm sure it would've been more interesting. Guy Gardner was pretty good. John Stewart seems like he went from Ice Cold Man to Near Losing It Every Other Conversation Man. Guess that's the point where Sinestro is going to test him or something?

Obviously Hal's got a human cooker in the Vault, but thought he needed Man-Hunter blood goop to use it. Maybe that's why he's so close to the Sheriff because he knows Noah is a Man Hunter and he's keeping tabs.
