Fairly disappointing ending. Show wasn't awful, but definitely so much wasted potential. Are they even aiming for a Season 2 or is this just character establishment for when John shows up in Man of Tomorrow?

We were so close to a Stewart/Gardner showdown too, which would've been cool.

i love how the nog is actually really bad at being a super hero for justice

extinction level threat is pretending to be a teen and asks to be killed? nah
how powerful is this teen? he has the power to evade the security of the most secure prison in the universe and breakout the former greatest green lanter and only guardian killer, tell guy where sinestro is? nah

shady cop murders an ex intergalactic super hero, one of earths first super hero, turn her in? nah

some random bitch is blackmailing you for 300k, narc on her? it's not like the sheriff who murders superheroes is not gonna take your side? nah

Not sure why but it annoyed me that the black guy was pretending to be a military raised future green lantern and said 'axe' instead of ask.

As someone who knows jack about Green Lantern lore, I thought the series was ok overall.

For people who do know jack about the lore - one thing that bugged me was this talk about Hal breaking the oath. Is this the literal one they recite in the show ? Because that one is all flowery descriptions - the only thing remotely actionable is 'No evil will escape my sight'. Why would talking to Sinestro violate that ? Also, this seems like a stupid prohibition because the only way you could fail is unintentionally, which suggests it was written by asshats.

Actually, why was Hal in jail anyway ? Did he commit any actual crimes there other than breaking and entering ? It was John who was the one doing first degree murder and dragging alien mercs into town.

Speaking of Sinestro - beating him up, stealing his shit and then leaving him to die of dehydration seems kind of questionable as 'justice'.

Because they couldn't kill him off without a little character assassination along the way. The fall from grace, losing the 'one' ring to rule them all. Going to jail. It was all to push the dumb suicide angle like they ham fisted into his dad's and granddaddy origin story. That way it would be a huge shock when the love of his life that he was in a relationship with for 5 minutes of screen time offed him.

They were doing some temu Shakespeare shit with Jon Stewart having to kill the terminator robot who was the love of his life after 5 minutes and mirroring that with Hal's pointless retarded death. You can't give a black guy the ring without making the white guy look like a pathetic loser who really should have just killed himself and let the black guy have it.

The Sinestro and Gardner bullshit was just to reinforce how strong the black man was and how he could effortlessly take out all the other green lanterns because he is the Alpha Tyrone and he could even fuck them into submission if he wanted like he did the killer robot.

The most objectionable part of the show was the guy being unable to say 'ask'.

Huh? He distinctly said "axe" twice in a row. I was really hoping Hal would use it to make fun of him but of course the ghetto chick writers couldnt let that happen.

like, when did the racism come in? he came to town for 2 days as a god damn superhero w/ his black heir apparent, and just b/c something doesn't feel right in the entire town (which was true), he's a racist

like, the town doesn't hate him b/c he's a racist, and he's only "racist" b/c he's an old white guy... the town hates him b/c he killed (took the blame) their techno alien jesus (the manhunter literally used its super machine to cure the fat nake guys cancer)

the greatest lantern just a bumbling old hick

Hal's whole backstory episode was a red herring, Hal didn't have mental problems and kill himself, the portal wasn't even his, he didn't break Sinestro out, and the vault wasn't meant as a generational secret passed to John. Hell the internet theory about him sussing the town again was wrong he was genuinely trying to be helpful.

It was an over-emotional girlfriend with a gun.

Man, this show really did have so much potential. I am convinced that the heads of DC get off on destroying their brand.

Not sure why that is controversial all of a sudden? Parent’s kid is at risk of getting killed, parent takes extreme action to protect the kid. if she let them kill her son half of you would be saying dumb shit like “libirul wumen kill own kidz, writurz meant this”.

The caveat here is the kid is part alien that could wipe shit out, which creates the classic ethical dilemma of “needs of few vs needs of many” and “nature vs nurture” that has been a staple of fiction forever

Sure, that doesn’t absolve her of murder and consequences, but given the fact they want to let the potentially world ending kid have a normal life, tossing his mom in prison would probably not be conducive to making sure the kid turns out to be good vs evil

finished binging through the season, most of the episodes are pretty enjoyable since the mysteries build up and resolve and newer mysteries are uncovered but holy shit that was an awful ending. things i expected

- manhunters or something worse infiltrated the guardians, thats why sinestro killed one but he can't talk about it and its plans within plans involving hal too
- something more with what the goals of are the manhunter, why it exterminated that planet, what it wants to do with Earth, what its beef and plans with the guardians are
- something significant about the forged lantern that will almost certainly fuck up seriously anyone who tries to use it (genocide planet roots, sinestro forged it)

instead we get some retarded shit with an emo manhunter and lindsay clancy the murdering mom. why did the black family all get back together at the end, wasn't the dad basically suffering dementia alone and the mom off somewhere else, why the fuck would they come back together. Did the death of a white man heal the black family? LOL

the ending felt like some temu AI prompt of "write me an ending that gen alpha of 2026 would feel reflects their world view"

i don't really know shit about the lanterns and I wish they talked about manhunters more, I still have no idea what the fuck they are or their power levels. i didn't even realize they were machines (AI?) until a podcast talked about it, the whole manhunter angle in the show is severely underdeveloped and poorly crafted.

summary of season 1: a black guy helps cover up a murder and steals the dead guys ring, gives in to blackmail, and doesn't tell the authorities about multiple felons.
