I think my Lenovo Legion 7 just kicked the bucket. Sometimes it shows the Lenovo graphic on bootup, sometimes it doesn't. It'll boot to windows and if I don't log in, it'll stay fine forever. When I log in though, it will crash at some point in the next minute or so.

I got a memtest usb boot drive going, and ran through memtest for 40 minutes. That passed successfully. I think the drives are fine. I tried to download a lenovo specific usb boot diagnostic thing but I haven't got it to actually get to the boot from USB menu since then.

Looks like there isn't a warranty offered for this one anymore via the Lenovo site. I did have the original 1 year plus a 2 year extension, but still I'm about a year out of warranty.

Crap. Maybe it's a sign to spend less time playing computer games. Thoughts on how to proceed? I don't even seem AMD offerings on the Lenovo site for new laptops. Guessing I'll go a different direction next time around.
you mean if you leave it on the login screen, it'll stay like that forever, but once you do any activity, it'll crash?

maybe your cpu is overheating, legion 7 was released in 2021? maybe your paste is dry, can't hurt to open it up and replace the paste

My little piece of shit is dying.
If you guys had a 1k budget, what would you get right now? Must be Windows, not Linux, light gaming would be nice.

My Lenovo Chromebook is a piece of junk. Crashes randomly, can't use it for video conferences because of constant feedback if the mic isn't muted. I hate the trackpad, but I kinda hate all trackpads.

It was a cheap ass computer so I shouldn't have expected much but I thought Lenovo had a pretty good reputation. Maybe not so much in the budget Chromebook space I guess. All I use it for is web surfing while I drink coffee in the morning and the odd zoom call but it seems not to be up to even that.

You might be mad at Lenovo now, but imo, for a super-cheap laptop for business-ish purposes, nothing beats an old, ebay Thinkpad. Just keep good backups and get another when it finally dies.

I only use my laptop once a month for a week while traveling and my travel will be restricted for a while after baby is born, it was just fresh on my mind because I traveled last week and fought with it the whole time. We'll see in a few months. Could just need to be reimaged which isn't a big deal since I've done a good job of moving about 95% of everything over to SharePoint and Office365 and not a lot is stored locally these days.

This was the issue. Took awhile for the good paste to come in but I'm back on it now. Good call. Appreciate it.

i know you put new paste on it, if you don't ever want to deal w/ it again (but i don't know how long your laptop will last) you can try the phasechange pads
Thermal Grizzly - PhaseSheet PTM (50x40mm)- High Performance Thermal pad with Phase Change Material | Durable, not electrically Conductive | for CPU, GPU & Electronics Cooling

they won't dry out and it's what all the gpu's are using now

thermal grizzly is probably more expensive but you know it's real, there are a lot of fakes from chyna

i think the product number is ptm7950, from honeywell

+1 for Thermal Grizzly, they have good stuff. Worth the extra cost.
