If I want a fairly hands-off pet build (I'll probably play a lot on Steam Deck), should I go some sort of beastmaster or does this new falconer have good "walking simulator" pet builds? I see some sorta Ballista builds with it, is that gonna be like PoE totems?

I did a minion necro a couple years ago so rather something new, Class wise.

falconer is likely more hands on. its one pet, and has several specific skills that use it.

beastmaster does have full on pet builds, as well of course necro.

I'm probably going Rive Void Knight. I wanted to go some sort of lightning Shaman, but it appears that they aren't really all that viable outside of bug form and fuck that.

I'll continue to update this post to keep everyone in the loop with launch day status.
Online Status: 11:46AM CST: 150k CCU and the initial burst of volume has our matchmaking services experiencing some issues that we're quickly working to rectify. We're in the war room with our backend team and service providers turning all the dials and knobs as quickly as we can.
12:07: found the web API service is failing so we're restarting it. Currently matchmaking is still down which will affect login and scene to scene transition.
12:25: follow up backend deploys are going well but we're still investigating the container apps for this service failing. Progress being made. Matchmaking (connecting to servers when changing scenes or logging in) is currently still down
an hour ago: seeing some stability coming back. Will keep everyone posted
51 minutes ago: a services container app down again. Working to get it back up. Maybe I shouldn't relay when stability is coming back so quickly so the service isn't hit so hard immediately

34 minutes ago: we're kicking off a client build to address people sometimes seeing character selection blank. This is able to be worked around by exiting and re-launching the game if you experience it before patch deploy. Aiming to push that out later today

Full Offline Mode If you'd like to access full offline mode while there are issues you should select "Play in Full Offline" in the small window that pops up when you hit "Play" from the Steam library. This of course wont experience the same issues we're addressing in Online play. If you updated immediately at 11am CT this will require a Steam restart to access as it was deployed at 11:15AM CST Thank you for your patience! The turnout is humbling and we're working to address these issues as quickly as possible.

People, even the grogards here, don't appreciate how complicated this can be, and how hard it can be to overcome what is effectively a friendly DDOS attack in the form of customers wanting to login can be up and down the app/DB/authentication/infrastructure pipeline. Having much of this hosted in AWS/MS Azure/private clouds where they can throw resources at it helps but you will always find bottlenecks if your app isn't architected for it, and its hard to plan for these kind of ultra peak load scenarios realistically, particularly when you are a company like EHG. It's easy to see why someone like Pocket Pair ( I assume their GamePass deal included hosting and scaling on Azure) probably partnered with MS because of their hosting capabilities, and EHG doesn't have the same kind of deal/expertise at this fingertips.

Even Blizzard, with their DataCenter Ops expertise had issues with the D4 launch, and that was after a huge beta and stress test. Some parts are not architected/bearing up under what is surely in the MMO space a relatively limited load but probably won't see this kind of demand again.

I agree, but FYI EHG is partially owned by Tencent, who invested specifically to help them with hardware and infrastructure.

8 minutes ago Keeping everyone in the loop - we're still working on this - but how we're attempting resolution is technical. We're attempting to redeploy the container app environment entirely while portions of our team are digging deeper into logs.

Found it. The old guy you were escorting does not initially follow you. Have to go back and get him to continue the quest...

Anyone tried 1.0 on Steam Deck and if so how does it perform?

Literally just started but so far so good. Medium graphic settings, switch to Proton Experimental.

*Edit: Whole deck froze entering the 2nd area after the first town WP. Will try switching to Low graphics.

Found it. The old guy you were escorting does not initially follow you. Have to go back and get him to continue the quest...
Quest progress can be finnicky sometimes, some NPCs you have to speak to, some you don't, you can actually skip bunch of the story by just walking further(although I saw they did remove the chapter 1 skip where you just ignore the old man getting attacked to skip the waves of enemies+miniboss thing for example, and a couple more doors looked closed in higher chapters too). Upside is most quests you can do without having to talk to anyone, and in some cases it's even better(Hidden Gems in chapter 5, if you speak to the NPC you have to do an additional step for it, if you don't and just go to the last spot of the quest you just do the fight there and get the passive point).

Just glossed straight over the part about D4 having issues as well.
It's really at least 15 years too late to use Blizzard as a comparison that sheds a positive light. Especially in this genre.

Although I don't personally think it is that big a deal, tbh. I logged in, saw the shitshow, and simply went back to wrap up a Morathi campaign that's ongoing before CA's patch eats it in day. Last Epoch is still there in two days, no sweat.
