I wasn't sure if this needed a new thread or not. But does anyone else have this on the WiiU? I don't think I made it very far on the gamecube version but it looks amazing on the WiiU. If anyone has it do you play with the regular controller or one of the pro controller? I like the ability to quick select inventory items and hope they implement this in the new Zelda WiiU game.

I know they are selling a WiiU bundle and on the eshop, the disc comes out Friday I think.

Yeah it comes out tomorrow. I am really getting sick of the HD remakes... Not to say this wouldn't be a fun play through again, but a full 50 bucks for the same game I won on the Gamecube.... Not to mention I could use Dolphin for full HD support and use a controller and get the same result.

Did they add * anything * from a content perspective?

(To answer the OP's question, yes it does have customized controls for inventory management that are handled by the gamepad)

I never had a Gamecube so it's a new experience for me, and all the changes they made are supposed to help a lot with some of the tedium of the original. I play it on the Gamepad not a pro controller.

Here's a list from NeoGAF of all the non-graphical changes, pretty significant changes to sailing and the Triforce quest at the end of the game:

Sailing

  • Can now acquire the Swift Sail in the Windfall Auction.
  • Swift Sail doubles sailing speed and forces wind to always be at your back.
  • Getting hit while in your boat doesn't knock you off of it unless you take an excessive amount of damage.

Pictographs

  • Can now take up to 12 Pictographs.
  • No longer need the Bug from the Forest Haven to finish the Deluxe Pictobox quest. It is upgraded automatically after you do Lenzo's three picture requirements.
  • Each photo now gets a rating the moment you take it, as opposed to when you arrive to exchange it.
  • Pictographs can be submitted multiple times in one visit to be exchanged for figurines.
  • Can download/submit Pictographs over Miiverse, getting the tough/missable ones MUCH easier. Also, you get to keep your photos if you send them via Tingle Bottle/Miiverse.

Quest

  • Added Hero Mode: Available from the start, can toggle before loading your save. Take double damage, no heart drops of any kind. Can only heal via fairies, soup, potions or heart piece pick-ups.
  • Five Triforce charts have been replaced by the actual pieces.
  • Tingle is introduced as part of the main quest.
  • Orca no longer knocks you down if you screw up the sword tutorial once.
  • Tingle Statues are now found by laying down regular bombs instead of the Tingle Bombs (that no longer exist) at their hidden locations. There is no prompt or hints in game at their location anymore, meaning they likely just wanted you to check the internet!
  • Forest Water quest has an additional ten minutes added for leniency.
  • Enemy Orbs always drop said enemy's special item, e.g. Joy Pendants, Skull Necklaces and Knight's Crests.

Actions

  • Can now alter grapple swing direction while swinging.
  • Can now move in first-person view while aiming the Bow, Hookshot, Grappling Hook and Boomerang.
  • Addition of gyroscope aiming controls (which can be disabled).
  • Climbing a block is no longer an alternate command. Think Ocarina of Time where you have to press into a block to get a climb command, except in WWHD it takes longer. :/
  • Can no longer snipe Molgera's tongue out of the air using the Hookshot.
  • Enemies have less invincibility after being struck, allowing multi-hits from Thrust attacks.
  • Deku Leaf now has a green indicator which shows where you will land on the ground if you cancel the Leaf.

UI & Animations & Misc.

  • Pulling items from the sea floor is about 4x faster.
  • Grappling cutscene is faster.
  • Text speed is much faster.
  • Wind Waker songs will no longer repeat themselves after being conducted once.
  • Wind Waker's beat only starts when you conduct the first note, as opposed to being constant.
  • Wind direction change option has been moved to the bottom right, as opposed to being a full screen overlay.
  • Wind Waker has been moved to a permanent position on the Gamepad's D-Pad; no need to go into the menu to equip at any time.
  • Grappling and cannon options while sailing are permanently on the D-Pad. No need to equip while sailing.
  • Cannon firing now has a tracker showing you the trajectory of your bomb and where it will land.
  • Can now hotswap items on the GamePad without having to go into a menu (You can still pause to swap).
  • Can alter camera controls to be reversed (thanks GameXplain).
  • Can remove HUD from the screen entirely save for hearts, magic and quick prompts.
  • Can review fish advice from the GamePad map without having to re-feed them bait.
  • Items that enemies drop and the ones you break from the Orbs take longer to disappear.
  • Enemies that die at sea now have their items fly towards you as drops. Accuracy is hit-or-miss.

I know they added some online stuff (probably just ability to leave notes and shit). I'm not sure as I only played about 2 hours on the gamecube version. Oh and your boat has a 50% speed increase according the website.

Oh, well I am using the regular controller.

I figured that it would be needed for the tingle stuff like the old gameboy was used in the original title. Could be wrong. Fuck if I know honestly.

The HD rerelease doesn't bother me per se. I'm not a fan of the high price of this title, clearly. However, if Nintendo are going to do this, I'd really like to see them re release Xenoblade and both the Wii Zeldas, along with several other Wii titles that just flat out look like shit in Wii U backwards compatability mode, or had limited releases like Xenoblade.

I'd be ok if they re-released the zelda games and the mario games on WiiU. As long as the gamepad is supported or the pro controller.

heh that is a huge list of changes. would love to see them put that kind of love and care into a skyward sword hd release, maybe even TP and OoT Master Quest.

I played the original when it came out and what I remember is the game being a chore. Seriously fuck having to travel a monotonous ocean on a boat for an entire game. There is a sequence where you actually visit land (not an island) and all I could think about was what a relief it felt like and how much better the game would have been had they gotten rid of the ocean aspect of it. I only got the penultimate portion of the game where you collect the pieces of the triforce. I could never stomach that part of the game. I read they fixed that in the remake.

List of changes is considerable but there isn't any new content added. It's all quality of life tweaks which is fine, and also good if no one played it back in the Gamecube days...

I would be more interested to see them use their efforts on a new Zelda experience that we could be playing already. Waiting 2+ years for system selling titles to hit while we play remakes is retarded and is also why this system is selling about as many units as a used 1970 Ford Pinto.

I doubt much development resources went into the Windwaker remake - it was more of a way to make a good bundle to tie into the price drop. The Zelda team is already working on 2 new titles currently.

Those I am definitely fired up for. Well, depends. Is the new game for 3DS (The SNES looking game) going to be a remake of Link to the past? Or is it going to just be the same style of overhead design but entirely new content? I haven't had the time to read up on it much besides seeing a few screenshots.

I am VERY fired up for the new Wii U game though. I also should really finish some of the other ones. The only Zelda games I have completed have been 1 and 2 on the NES, and Wind Waker. Still need to play through OOT on 3DS, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword. The later 2 I would want to play on dolphin.

I think that sailing speed increase change alone will make me actually play this game now. That was mind numbingly boring the first time i attempted to play it

It's a sequel - it's japanese title is literallyThe Legend of Zelda: Triforce of the Gods 2. It's set 6 "generations" after LttP, so the overworld will probably be very similar, but it's going to use 3D instead of just being isometric - tied into that is a new ability of Link's where he can flatten himself and turn into a painting on the wall and use that to solve puzzles.

I really enjoyed the sailing aspect of WW. I liked how every island had something special about it. WW is probably one of my favorite Zelda games.

I liked the sailing and the weather and the wind. But i'm kind of a weirdo. I played the SHIT out of Pirates gold on sega for way too long.
