Have a look for your characters on all the different servers. When I first logged back in I thought I'd lost all my old stuff, but they'd been transferred to a random server.
My old account no longer works. Says it no longer has a valid LOTRO sub. Had to create a new one to even play.

By Gandalf's beard minstrels are powerful now. I started a minstrel a week or so ago and he's now around level 30. I've not even come close to being in trouble despite soloing multiple signature mobs at once. Or has the whole game been made easier? I remember struggling through the "elite" side of the goblin camp in Lonelands as a hunter, breezed through it on my minstrel, mobs seem to die quicker too.

Also, the ability to use the points earned by completing deeds to purchase coins to teleport to quest hand-in npcs is a god send.

Minstrels have always been really good at soloing because of their ability to self heal. That said, it is possible things were made easier, so I dunno.

I felt I played the minstrel effectively 1-50 in vanilla. I understood what every ability did and came up with what I thought was the best order to use them. It was not as easy as you're describing.

Indeed. I made an alt minstrel at launch also, but it was slow and tedious by the second half of Lonelands.

Now though, my minstrel is mowing through content faster than my champion. Typically I use my ballads to kill the first mob, launch an anthem that gives me health regen and kill the second mob with a coda. Rinse repeat, and the regen makes me near enough invincible.

Thought I'd kick this thread since Helm's Deep is going live today and there is no other LOTRO thread here.

Main features are:

- max level to 95
- Western Rohan is opening up
- Big Battle system, basically you can re-enact the Helm's Deep battle(s) with tons of NPCs and mobs etc. going at it.
- Complete revamp of the trait system, instead of slotting traits you have a trait tree akin to the old WoW talent trees.

I pre-ordered it a few weeks ago on a whim, and got into beta. It was extremely disappointing: they butchered the classes, the big battle system is full of bugs and imbalance and all the feedback given on the beta forums is literally 100% ignored. What I heard from people that were in the beta till the end, is that it will ship like that.

The epic quests will probably be great though, so I guess I'll pick up my 85 champ and roll through the epics, see the new Rohan landscapes and then quit in disgust as always.

I enjoy LOTRO, but I'm a nerd, so even though the gameplay is typical MMO bear ass and click shinies, I get a lot of enjoyment from the world and lore. They do a great job at bringing the books to life.

I think the Big Battles, watching from Youtube, look pretty fun, but not too sold on the class trees. I'll live with it though, obviously.

This totally. It had good and bad qualities like any MMO but the "lore" and relationship to LotR made this game pretty enjoyable, I even payed for a sub for awhile. Funny part is I never read any of the books, thought the movies were above average but not fantastic, never saw the new hobbit one either. But it was just really neat running through a world I "knew". I also enjoyed how the main story quest had me interacting with all the main characters and such.

Overall I actually thought this game was pretty damn fun. Never made it far and got frustrated when I hit the first spot I needed to go into an elite dungeon and there was zero groups my level to do it
frown.png
Then I did a few of those skirmishes or whatever and holy shit do you level fast, no wonder no one does lower level stuff. Anyway, yea the story rocks.

I think the reaction to the class changes strongly depends on which class and which role you play, and how long you've played the game for. Some classes have come out of this in much better shape than others, Guardians for example seem to be fine, while Wardens are a mess at least as far as tanking goes. As always YMMV. There's a whole bunch of tweaking to animations especially the ones that took a long time to complete.

Many of the more vociferous posters don't like the fact that they no longer need five taskbars full of skills that they can pick and choose from for any fight. They were ignored simply because they didn't want any change, and change was going to happen.

The big battles seem like a cop-out to me, but I can see why they'd at least try it. If it works for Helms Deep, then they can use it for Osgiliath, the Siege of Gondor, Pelennor Fields and the last battle outside the Black Gates. I'm not a fan however of game systems that take you "outside" of your class.

I played this pretty seriously (subscription and all!) between Moria and Rohan releases. Like others have said, I really enjoyed the setting and story and I definitely think everyone owes it to themselves to play through at least once just to do the epic quest line. They even made it all soloable long ago. Additionally, this game still feels the most like a real "world" to me; by that I mean, I don't feel like I'm in a virtual chat lobby waiting for games to launch. It is very cool to see people farming crops in fields, see houses and decorations, and the sheer size of the world which is largely seamless is very impressive. The graphics are really nice and the cosmetic outfits are fantastic, also.

That said, the thing that ultimately made me quit was the clunky combat. I played a guardian (tank) and the combat was just god awful in pretty much every way possible: very slow and unresponsive, choppy and confusing animations, boring abilities without any flare or creativity, extreme "whack-a-mole" syndrome (i.e wait for ability 1 to trigger, which opens ability 3, which opens ability 4, etc.)

So they magically seem to be having network / connectivity problems that caused them to postpone the HD release until further notice.

Call me crazy and put on yer tinfoil hits, cause I think it's just a ruse to do some last-minute polishing / bug-fixing on HD. Smells fishy anyway.

Level to 95
All Characters may now advance from level 85 to level 95.

Stat Cap Adjustments
Stat Caps have been adjusted to account for the jump in item level and new gear stat-ings. As a temporary solution/bridge to these jumps, we have implemented intermediary stat caps as follows for Block, Parry, Evade, and Critical Chance:

Level 1-50: 15%
Level 51-84: 20%
Level 85-95: 25%

At lower levels, rating contributions should remain relatively untouched, but as players approach level cap, they should notice a slightly decreased return of rating to percentage. We will be revisiting stat caps and rating contributions in the near future to allow for a much smoother transition throughout leveling.

Crafting Changes
Several important changes have been made to crafting in addition to a new Tier. Please be sure to read over the notes carefully.

It's the Little Things...

Vault-keepers now sell bags of copper, silver, and gold coins. These bags of currency can be sent to other characters on the same world through Shared Storage, allowing you to share money without using the mail system.
Housing Chests have undergone a transformation. They now function more like vaults and other storage and can be upgraded to 75 storage spaces via in-game gold and to 225 via Mithril. Personal housing chests will accept bound items from the account that purchased the house. Kinship housing chests will not allow bound items.

A thank you to our Fashion Bloggers from Aubergine
We would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the fashion bloggers that have so generously donated their outfit designs to the LOTRO Mannequins! Hymne of Cosmetic Lotro has contributed many of the beautiful designs you've seen throughout most of this year. In September, we began using the equally stunning designs from Starry of the Starry Mantle. I am constantly delighted and awed by the outfits both have created, and we are very grateful for their generous gift of allowing us to use their creative talent for our designs. Creating wonderful cosmetic outfits is a labor of love and takes an enormous amount of time. It has been a pleasure to use such beautifully and thoughtfully crafted designs in game. - Aubergine

A Special Thank you to the Players Council and members of the Palantir private preview program
The number of changes to classes and the truly massive size of the Epic Battle system required a great deal of feedback and testing even before we entered the Beta cycle. Without your help and insights early in the process, taking on these challenges would have taken longer, caused far more sleepless nights, and resulted in a less polished final release. We thank you all for your assistance, your passion and for your dedication to helping us make The Lord of the Rings Online the best it can be. - The LOTRO Team

With the new exp, basically any class can faceroll PvE content with almost no chance of dying.

I'm playing a champ which is pretty OP (AoE everything down) and I've heard Guardians are soloing 6-man content atm.

But just pick whatever seems groovy to you. It's all good.

I haven't played this in forever and I need something new to play. Any primer to get back into things?
It's pretty straightforward MMO stuff, you shouldn't have much trouble with the basics.

A 64 bit operating system will help if you want to run the highest definition textures, otherwise you can expect crashes during transitions unless you dial things down.

Make sure you open the gift box your character gets in the mail once you get past the starting area. You'll get a mount that lasts 24 hours (real time, not game time). It can take a long time to get from A to B in this game so your first goal is to get a permanent mount so make good use of the free one. The elf area is the best place to do your first quests since you'll pick up Turbine points the fastest there, and you can use those for buying riding skills. The shire looks great, but has some poor routing for quests where you'll go up the hill, down the hill, back up, back down, and so on.

If you haven't played since they redid Bree it's worth seeing how its changed. If you have graphical problems they'll crop up there first.

Don't buy anything with Turbine Points until what you want is on sale. The F2P system works well in this game.

My best advice for anyone jumping back into LOTRO (or starting new) is to take your time leveling up and try to enjoy all of the quests. There are lots of standard fedex quests, especially in the Shire, but the best part of this game is the story-telling and experiencing the world of Middle Earth. The entire epic quest line from level 1 through max is awesome, but there are tons of really great "mini-epic" quest lines scattered throughout.

I'm not sure how much the most recent expansion improved combat, but the grouping/raiding at high level in LOTRO has always been very mediocre. The strength of the game lies in the journey, not the destination, so if you race to max level you'll quickly find yourself bored and/or frustrated.

Meh, wanted to try it again, but it seems you had to do something to transfer an euro account from Codemasters to Turbine like 2 years ago and it's no longer possible.

So, I've lost everything, and really don't want to start back up again.
