The later zones and expansions did a much better job of making standard leveling questlines interesting. The vanilla zones are full of "hero we are short on fur! Bring us bear fur!" types of things. Zoned added later like Before the Shadow (Cardolan), Yondershire, and later expansions add more story to those kinds of quests. A lot of them tie together into mini arcs, where they lead to more complex plots and even many mini solo instances.

Still not for everyone. I'd encourage anyone who was bored by the run of the mill quests years ago to try it again and stick to newer leveling zones. It's a much more interesting experience.
I totally agree. I am a huge fan of the Meneldir story arc in Before The Shadow.

Is there a zone completion tracker like All The Things from WoW? I've read there are quests you can't get if you do things out of order.

Not so much a zone completion tracker, but there is a plug in called Deed Tracker that I absolutely love. I wish they would integrate it with the game, so it had full access to existing data. If you install it after you have already played through most content, you have to manually update all the deeds you already completed sadly.

And, there are some things (not a ton) that you can not complete if you missed it at the time you was going through it. I know there is a quest line in Rise of Isengard that you can't go back and anything you miss in it after you complete the over arching quest line because it involves a NPC you are escorting across the southern portion of the zone, and after you are done with him, you can't go back and do any of the quests you missed that required you to do it while you had him with you.

Like I said, there aren't a lot of these, but as a completionist, it really irks me when I find something like that that if you miss it the first time, you can't ever complete it later.

Yeah I was warned that if you go get your legendary at 45 you should do the other prologue quests nearby or they go away when you get your legendary and you lose out on finery, whatever that is. Will track down the Deed Tracker when I get home from work, thanks!

Ah yeah.. there is a small area before the Moria entry that you can only do while you are working on getting your Legendary Items. Once you have completed that part, you can't go back in there to do the side quests.
