There was little Bungie could do about the PS4 era hard drives being so tiny.
In retrospect, Beyond Light and after should have been Destiny 3, available only for PS5-era systems, with some seasonal passes stretching out D2. Portray zombie-D2 as being a Vex simulation with the real world being D3, with an option to port your D2 chars whenever you moved to D3.
Obviously, there would have been huge downsides to that plan as well. Would the PS5-era launch player base have been big enough to support a new game? Would players buy a Destiny 3 that was at that point 90% reused Destiny 2? Wouldn't Bungie have the same upkeep issues as they claimed back then, just in D3?
But at the end of the day, there's only so much you can do with having a live game on ancient hardware. I believe FF14 has all but said its days on the PS4 are numbered as well.

They are keeping 14 on PS4 till 8.3, is about the patch cycle they have stated, the game will require more hardware then what even the PS4 Pro can offer. (But I have heard horror stories of PS4 users having massive heat problems with all the recent texture changes they have made within the game.)
Still though EVERYTHING is there, unlike Bungie's dumb ass "We have to cut content" bull shit, lazy fucking people.

know steam is only a fraction of the playerbase, but destiny 2 is almost right there with marathon. apr 26th was last day marthon broke 20k peak. the way it is trending will probably be a couple of days next week with below 10k peak, unless people start coming back to get ready for the new season.

These numbers would be fine if it was a smaller studio, and tbh it looked like it was made by a smaller studio.
There has to be some sort of mind aids infecting these studios. Its like they don't have a single gamer inside to tell them "This idea sucks ass", they just push forward. It's sad when the concordian saga will finally end with horizons. It is entertaining watching people shit on these games. Marathon could have been a success if it was a project by 10 nerds in some basement. I suspect horizons will bomb way harder. That diabeetus tank completely dunks on this game in unappealing levels.

Didn't Renegades come out 6 months ago? So either:
'Almost all' of Bungie didn't notice that they had zero major D2 projects in the works, even after Marathon came out, or far more likely:
Daddy Sony said "We'll let you live as something like 50% of your current size for another 12-24 months while we see where Marathon settles and your what your prototypes for D3 or whatever look like before we decide to permanently pull the plug, so kill everything immediately to get to that point'
Sony could definitely use something for the PS6 release in '28? '29? so lets hope something still survives.

I’ve been listening to the Sacred Symbols podcast some. They seem to think Marathon is good but horribly mishandled. I dunno - wondering if these guys are just Sony shills. Fanboys for certain; and I can’t talk. I died on multiple hills for Blizzard and Nintendo over the years. I really liked destiny 2 for a couple years. Why is it Sony keeps fucking this shit up.

It's crazy right? Management has one job, make good decisions that make money. At this point there is no possible way they cannot see the trends in gaming, so why keep trying with stuff like Marathon and the upcoming Horizon mobile art slop looking thing? I don't get it.

I watched a few people play it and it looked fun to me, however, I'm not willing to shell out 40 to find out. They need to do a free weekend, I'd check it out.
