Everything so far points to it being retarded already though so it's more just cherry on top.

Not an art fag, but her art also seems to "moodboard" or is inspired by Wipeout and high contrast of mirrors edge. Shit, now i want a current gen wipeout game
It's all rooted from the same ideas which yeah basically wipeout.. but the specific part that is damning is that it just straight up ctrl+c ctrl+p assests from her art posted in 2017 into the game which started "development" in supposedly 2018. It really has nothing to do with the actual art style.. half the internet is sorta retarded in the idea that there is a large wave of people who think it is the art style itself being lifted.. but it's all just similar influences. Brutalism//Brutalism Modern -> Designer Republic//Vectorheart(wipeout) -> Y2k -> Swiss Graphic; ect.

This shit happens quite often, but for a multibillion dollar company to do it is crazy. You'd imagine Cross would be smart enough to either vet the work being put out, or having a good QA team to find these types of things.. as an art director, he mostlikely didn't do it himself.. but hes damn well responsible at not noticing these things. Which watching him basically die inside because the twitch chat was gold.

there is zero chance the game comes out this year

Drama aside, I think Arc Raiders would probably be a huge reason why they might delay. They really seemed to hit that sweet spot that appeals to both casuals and sweats. If Arc Raiders drops this summer or early fall and Marathon released relatively close to the state it was during the playtest, Marathon would flop hard.

I totally get that Bungie straight up stole it. Ive seen some people talk about how unique the art style is and it just reminded me of wipeout.
Best comment Ive seen is calling Marathon "Art Raider"

From GAF:
"If I was a Bungie employee right now I'd be looking around the internet for some resumes I can copy."

The artist shouldve waited until like a week before release.

It was probably just prototype textures intended for internal use. It makes perfect sense to copy some art to see if it fits the game, instead of spending a long time on it yourself. And then someone screwed up.

The contractor checked in the art deck to their repository in 2020. They used a ton of the iconography in the Marathon ARG puzzle before the alpha. It's not just a misplaced texture here and there, this is core to their design.

Whole thing sucks. I was hoping the later levels would be cool and deliver but after that last presentation it's not looking good. Reports of insider devs saying they needed changes to the PVE as long as five years ago and being stonewalled, presumably by the disgraced former game director Chris Barret. I just hope this doesn't kill Bungie as a whole because there still isn't anything like Destiny and I don't want my hobby shooter to disappear.

That artist really should get a lawyer. "But i don't have the money!" Dummy, they work on contingency. 33-40% of what they get you, and Bungie would be eager to settle early.

Nah, I completely understand the artist here. If your passion is the art you don’t want to be seen as a trouble maker, cause every door will be closed.

That said, having art as a passion is retarded. She definitely should cash out on bungie and the work a real job.

At the very least she should be fighting for the credit, not the removal of the art. It's big exposure having your art style be the basis for the game. Having it all be scrubbed from the game and no money to show for it leaves her with nothing.

Maybe I don't really understand lawsuits to a billion dollar company's perspective, but wouldn't they ultimately just remove the assets in the lawsuit and ride on the claims of basically alpha status since the proof is only really so deep. I'm not a lawman but I feel like there wouldn't be much of a payout as the game hasn't even hit shelves yet; as someone said before, if she had waited til release and cashed out then.. maybe. If anything this has mostly swayed the court of public opinion, that even some people who were cautiously optimistic are now leaning pessimistic because the water is tainted. Even if she makes up 2% of the designs, 99% of the design will ride on this fault.. And while I know many here aren't a fan of the art, that was one of the few things it actually had going for it.. that and supposedly the gunplay(destiny-ish) feels good.

Art and artist in media is a pretty big deal.. it might not seem like it, but its enough for people to see small portions adopted and then think that majority of the designs are directly related. It's pretty wild that they could have taken the inspiration from her, and created their own assets while applying 1/3s close to it because its not absolutely unique.. but instead they didn't even try to recreate it in any capacity. As an artist this would technically work well for her because the public now has their eyes on her, even for a short period; it goes into the portfolio esp the amount of articles.. Her portfolio is already relatively solid; it's not groundbreaking or anything.. but it stands up her capabilities, and now she's got a major company rifting her work.

edit; yeah the activision dogskin chinese artist now works for some tencent anime game after calling out cod for copying his work.. activision apologized and scrapped it from their game. I don't even think there was any sort of compensation.

You are correct, wouldn't be much of a payout is the right answer. However, artists make basically 0 dollars their whole lives. Peanuts>0.
