I loved Mechwarrior 5, one of those games I have kept around for long term. Glad they made this a gamepass game, already downloaded it and have been meaning to give it a go when I got a good amount of time to just game.

Steamrolled so far. Now running into headache with Baiting The Hook mission, 385 tonnes. Got heavy's and assault. Getting hammered early on. Getting wasted with the final drop. Damn.

This won't have the replay-ability of Mercs due to the lack of a sandbox mode, but they definitely went in hard with the story telling and the cinematics. I enjoyed it, looking forward to expansions if it was as successful as it looks to have potentially been.

It's kinda mixed. Your star has people not very good at voicing characters being "young and naive". Cordera Perez's VA is great, some of the other pilots you meet are also pretty good, but not a lot of screen time with them compared to your starting teammates.

Running out of components, unable to finish research. Who the fuck thought that was a good game design. Oh, and 2 new randos in star I have to level up with replay sims to not get slaughtered. FFS.

At the defend mission vs that certain annoying pissant leader. Getting whacked bc fuck if I can defend the 3 generators to repair more or however it works. BAH.

Man I was not impressed with this game. I played it for a while one day on my Xbox and I was like "nah this ain't it" and deleted it. Staying with Mercenaries as my go-to Mechwarrior title.

Deffo getting merc next time it's on sale xbx here. I love sandboxing and getting uniques. Clans is just too linear and so many poor design decisions - oh you want to fool around with MPLs or AC builds now, well fuck you bc earlier you put research into PPC and defense. I get that resources are scarce, but having to guess a linea optimization formula to have fun is beyound retarded and does not fit with creativity or trying new builds. And exp points for lance members, mah gawd. I have 16k in excess on a maxed Jayden, and need some 5K on each of the 2 new retards. Oh joy, now I'll have to play a sim or 10 of my favorite linear missions I've aced earlier. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. Call me in 3 years time when DLC fixes this game, I'm OUT.

How old is the previous Mercenary game? 15 or 20 years now? Replayed that a half dozen times and if I find it digitally, I would install and play again.

Piranha's Mechwarrior games have consistently left a fair bit to be desired and considering that the story missions were by far the worst part of Mercenaries I'm not surprised that a campaign only game is fairly disappointing.

The one saving grace is that the actual gameplay of stomping around in giant mechs is generally very enjoyable.
