That's a great documentary. I still watch the movie once a year, along with Dracula, still my favorite adaptation of the book.He’s taken risks before and had it pay off, I’ll give it a shot. For anyone that has never seen the doco on making Apocalypse Now it is just as interesting as the movie.
Fanfic.... somehow an 80+ director, that has not made a movie in more than a decade and whose last few films have been mixed bags at best, had trouble to finance an ambitious movie. Shocking! That said, he attracted a bunch of big names for his cast, so it's still a bit surprising that he had to finance it himself.
Some well known names... none that I think are box office draws. A more star studded megaflop like Babylon wasn't so long ago in the Hollywood memory, so I could hardly blame any distributor not wanting to commit $100 million in marketing like he wants, let alone have helped finance it.
Who knows. I looked at his filmography, and you are right. The man hasn't done anything for a long time.
