I think they like their knives because orientals can't own guns....
I've started teasing my wife by calling them orientals also. She's super embarrassed now that she knows it's considered a slur. I told her I'm married to a southern woman now, I need to learn the lingo!

Are you married to an oriental? I mean there's nothing wrong with it, used to happen in the old west all the time.

Nah she's a Cajun Queen. I guess that's just what they called them in Louisiana.

Forgot to ask, does she make a good gumbo or etouffee? If not, she's been lying to you!
She makes good red beans and rice. Gumbo and etouffee takes a while. We usually just buy it from the cajun grocer or somewhere local when we visit her family in Louisiana.

I don't make gumbo very often but maybe once or twice a year, especially after Thanksgiving cuz I'll use leftover turkey, and it's typically coldish outside. Seafood gumbo is fair game year-round, especially during shrimp season. Definitely not a midweek meal but you can make quick versions. That's funny though because once you know how to do it, that's not hard whatsoever, and you can use whatever the hell you got on hand, for use up leftovers of any sort.

I found that a if you take a good seasoned cast iron skillet, just put a bunch of flour in it, and roast the dry flour in the oven at maybe 250/ 300 for a while, stirring on occasions, you'll toast it. You can get a really dark color on the flour, and it picks up that chard and nutty notes.
Just let it cool, and throw it into some mason jars. Use that flower to make your roux, and you can get pretty close to the real experience pretty quick. Works with etouffee as well which is a thicker gumbo basically, more gravy than anything. Also, that roasted flour works for any sort of gravy you want to make for whatever dish but just adds that smokier flavor.

Does she use the proper pork fats when making beans and rice? If she's a Cajun Queen, she should know what I mean.

She has a non standard family recipe. It uses jimmy deans hot sausage. She browns it I think then adds all the stuff to cook in the pork fat.

Just watched the first two episodes of this and it's pretty good. Guess the thread got derailed by these back to the future dipshits who think they're bringing back Oriental as a slur. Maybe we should all start calling people "Yellow" again too.

Got a good gumbo recipe? I'll settle for any Creole dish, as well.

Gets more difficult to follow halfway through from Asian story-weaving where they introduce new characters that aren't really new but never had a real introduction until mid-season. Have to be glued to the screen to stay on top of the plot development, but the show mostly kicks ass.

Good mouth rinse after that "The Brother's Sun"

Final episodes delivered some powerful scenes. The tension was there throughout.

8.5/10 would be a 9/10 with great dubs or subs that don't instantly flash for a millisecond. The title subs at the beginning when new characters were introduced and their executive role at the corporation would stay on screen for a fraction of a second, which really made it more difficult to catch on to the politics, of which politics are the entire plot. Probably the only negative thing I can say about this is the plot twists and double crosses become really difficult to follow halfway through. One of the episodes in particular is a head-spinner. Had to compare notes with a friend watching the series at the same time to get it all straight at one point. Casual enthusiasts beware.

The main cast is clear enough (sort of, you need to keep an eagle eye on it) but then there are a few "Oh yeah that background guy from a few episodes ago is actually a main character" moments.

Thing that matters most is following the corporations, who works where, and for who. Dubs being a real option would help tremendously. I stayed subs the entire time-- but a friend broke around Ep 4 or 5 and had to put dubs on because it became too confusing. Most people can't tolerate low quality dubs unfortunately.

There are white ppl moments where you just completely lose your mind and shout "they all look the same" and get completely defeated while watching this, but more due to the show fucking with people and Asian story-telling. Twists and major plot turns, swapping out main characters mid-season. People are used to predictable Western story-telling for idiots. They introduce new main characters suddenly, or a character that was on screen 3 episodes ago for 1 second is now the central plot.
