Minecraft: The Movie (2025)

My wife took our son to see this yesterday. He's 7, and thoroughly enjoyed it. So good deal.

Apparently there is a lot of TikTok humor in it, which went over my head because I don't doomscroll all day. As someone that has played Minecraft, I didn't hate it, but I'd never watch it again. I think it would have worked a bit better if they had cast someone besides Momoa.

So, will your kids enjoy it? Most likely. Will the average person on this board? Probably not.

I've tried Minecraft just because my son wanted someone to play with one night. This game is shit. I pretty much just ran around looking at everything, seeing if I could pick it up or not. My old MMO habits. Ohh, I bet this is rare. "Stop dad, this isn't fun."

I did pretty much the same thing for Mario Odyssey, wasting time searching for stuff that probably didn't exist, just because I was thinking I wanted to get 100% at some random level for the trophy. My daughter was annoyed "Hurry up, the next level is over here!"

When I did Minecraft I just built mimics of our old cabin and stuff, my dad was pretty impressed at how detailed I had everything. That was like 15+ years ago when the game was new or somewhere around there, maybe the first release in beta

No idea what it's like now, there was people building motherboards ect. At that time that time, they were fun to look at

This is pretty much my assessment as well. My niece had to explain a bunch of references to me. I thought it was gorgeous visually and really captured a live action video game world. It was probably the perfect setting for AI CGI since there's no uncanny valley for minecraft creatures. I just wish the story and actors were better.
