I know 40k players are supposed to hate Tau, but these fish-commie models are fun to paint. Pin-lining the panels is some satisfying shit. Also, free-hand squad marking that you can easily cover up your fuck ups because it's just random geometric shapes.
Tau vehicles are really cool but the fish thing is eh weird. When they first came out in 3rd they were really interesting because there was nothing "high technology" in the setting. The problem I have with them is they really never explored that beyond gundam gun line. Farsight, chaos, how they deal with melee, it kinda just never developed over the first few editions. Eh.

Yeah, as far as I know the only recent developments have been Khorne trying to corrupt Farsight, and the leader of the Ethereals getting ganked by an imperial assassin.

So today I sat down and started looking at display cabinets for the my basement. I've got 1000s of d&d minis and then multiple wargame armies. And I want them a bit more on display.

I came across this and just had to share it with you guys.

Been slacking with my hobby all summer. Finally its snow and darkness 24/7 here and I can cozy down by the bench again.

Been doing Gunpla and a bunch of minis up to now, but kinda want to try going back to where I started now that I got a better understanding of airbrush control and what paints to use.

Bought my favourite fighter jet for the second time. But this time its from Tamiya and should be a way better build. A bit pricey though at $120.

Fucking $120 what is this a games workshop tomcat

Also if you've never tried them Vallejo "metal color" are the only metals I put through my nice brushes. They have exceptionally fine pigment.

Games Workshop and Bandai are really overpriced. But good quality models are expensive also.

I have built cheaper stuff from Revell etc and they really don't fit well together, some are worse than others. Tamiya have really good quality but yeah, a bit too much money IMO.

Going to take my time and try get it as good as I can. But my work area has 1 year of dust and cat hair on it. Will need to clean a bit so I can even airbrush without blasting dust everywhere.

Maybe I should finish the Juice tank I started 2 years ago. You know, to support the endless war.

The thing that sucks with abandoning projects is remembering what the hell you mixed to get the colors right. I really need to start taking notes on what colors I use.

Yeah, I hear a lot of people keep journals of color mixing or colors used, etc. I always think to myself that I’ll remember, but then I just picked up a model I’m in progress on and shit, I can’t even remember which version of gold Gundam marker I used on the fucking thing or if I washed the gold parts with nuln or agrax.

I'm lazy so I mostly take photos of the bottles next to the mini and store it in a folder.

My eyes are officially bad now at 43 years old. Anyone here using magnifying glasses they can recommend?

Tried normal reading glasses and they helped a bit.

Get goggles IMO.

I use the dumb grey ones from Amazon. Some people get really sick ones from dental supply places or like equipment resellers/auctions.

Or the ones like these

But you can spend thousands on like dentist or jeweler ones or whatever. Lots of different styles, hard to recommend since it's a comfort thing. I like the flip up kind because I only use them for very particular tasks, so I would double check for that feature.

Cockpit assembly started on the F14. Experimenting with various enamel washes like I did with the "nuln oils" on the minis.

Why are you using enamels out of curiosity?
I had them since before. I started with Tanks and Airplanes and everyone said to get enamel washes. Then when I came to this thread and asked about minis everyone used acrylic washes. No idea why the two "scenes" use different types.

They work nice though and are easy to remove with enamel thinner if you want to redo it a day later (unless you clear coat over it).

And I only use the enamel washes. For the rest I use Tamiya Acrlics and Lacquer paints.

Ah OK. Enamels are really good for pin washes and panel detail but yea, paint technology has changed so much it seems silly to bother for most uses anymore.
