They see Gane, Gaethje, Covington with 4-5 titleshots each. 15 titleshots combined in just 3 fighters. That's without getting into all the guys with 2-3 titleshots or bottom 10 with a titleshot.
It's not like the old days where you actually need to be the real number one contender. If you are a top 10 that's good enough. Maybe that's a good thing for the sport, but the matchmaking hasn't been great. I think they could do a lot more with it.
o'malley talks a lot of bs, but every now and then says something interesting. while back he was talking about how rankings don't matter, it is all about, how much they are paying you and your popularity. they are just trying to maximize their investment now and it shows with all the weak cards they are putting out.
ufc is already screwing over fighters, read a comment that during the peak ppv years, fighters got something like 17-20% of the grosses and now estimates say it could be in the 13-15% range. would bet their goal is to get it down to 10% during the paramount years.
with trump's support, ufc doesn't have any fear of an ali like act passing for mma and they are actively trying to weaken it and screw over boxers now.
i can't be the onlyone , that the first week of hearing this i thought that mcgregor is fighting some noob named benMMA journalists had a great point that offering Jon Jones the same exact money as Conor Benn.
Jones draws significantly more than Conor Benn, who is a relative nobody and unproven draw. You can't hardball 15 million dollars when you just paid Conor Benn 15 million. This is expected to affect the Conor McGregor negotiations this year also. If they offer McGregor 15 and not 25 it's a non-starter.
The two top draws in the UFC aren't taking Conor Benn money to fight. That's a given.

ufc sponsors ali act 2.0, it's all positives for ufc and does jack shit for fightersAn Ali Act is inevitable for MMA-- albeit not until Trump is out of office as goatface said.
