You realize before the reboot in MK One that Johnny was like 50ish years old right? He hasn't been portrayed as young for a long time now. Johnny Cage and Kano are the best parts of this movie.
Did he age with the games? The last mk game I played was mk2 or 3 back in the 90s.

Yes, he went from like late 20's to mid 50's before the MK One reboot. His daughter, Cassie Cage, even is an combatant starting in MX X.

That's actually pretty cool too see they had actual continuity. The movie choice makes much more sense.

The Cassie Cage relationship with Johnny is also normal - Sonia is the deadbeat parent from what I recall

I liked his Johnny Cage. It was good comedy relief.
I like how he couldn't fight for shit unless he was "acting". That shit was funny.

I don't know, finished this last night and thing the thread is a little too critical. It definitely had misses but overall, it was a MK movie with a lot of fights and fan service and ridiculousness. I'd watch an MK3 if they can make some improvements.

Yeah it doesn't beat the original or Annihilation I don't think due to soundtrack. Having a good amount of laughs was nice, but Shao Khan being a bitch has it fall short of the two original movies. They just nailed the tone in the first movie, and Annihilation had some solid fights.

The Scorpion fight in MK II and Shao Khan portrayal and no soundtrack for any fights puts MK II in 3rd place overall. It's an improvement over the 2021 movie but barely competes with Annihilation, and then no soundtrack at all just knocks it down another peg even if it held footing with Annihilation initially.

The criticism is deserved, but it's still heading in the right direction from 2021.

No sound at all in MK II is a huge huge negative.

The soundtracks in the first two movies were classics and carried the movie.

Laughs with Urban, Kano, and the constant mortally wounded bitch Shao Khan can't overcome that.

Im taking music during fight sequences and transitions over the blank void that was MK II every time.

Annihilation sucked, but so did MK II. It gets a pass here for being much better than 2021, but the flaws are just too great to overlook.

MK II was fan service from 2021 criticism. Not a great starting point to make a classic. And that showed as MK II generally sucked. Botching Shao Khan had a lot to do wth that. The Scorpion fight was bad enough to be another botch. It just all piles up and you realize its only on par with Annihilation and then falls short due to no music.

The soundtracks for the original two were top notch and revolutionary. I still listen the the one from the first movie.

I kept waiting for even a tiny bit of music to pipe in during the beginning of a fight scene or during a major escalation, but nothing. No story no music and a horribly weak Shao Khan. They even fucked up Cole's death. That scene had no weight. Same issue across the board along with Scorpion. The direction just wasn't there. Outside of Kung Lao vs Liu Kang, the fights barely had any emotional gravity. I'll take a really bad B movie with some soul in Annihilation over the silent scene-to-scene void of emotion that MK II ended up being outside of the laugh moments.
