Ehhhhh, could be good. I never watched succession, I don't really know what to expect, but it's got that snarky jibber-jabber sort of dialogue that I don't really care for. My wife watches all the stupid Aaron Sorkin shit, when I've tried to sit down with her but I just can't do it and that's what it reminds me of.

I understand it's supposed to be a comedy but doesn't look like it's my cup of tea. I mean if you guys end up watching it and say it's amazing I'll check it out, but it's not going on the list anytime soon.

Yeah I just don't like that style of comedy where it's hyper back and forth BS. I mean maybe if it takes a really dark turn towards the end because of whatever this global crisis event is, maybe they all turn on each other, I might be interested if it just completely goes off the rails.

Just reminds me of that stupid newsroom show or whatever the other dumbass one he did in the White House which is all leftist propaganda, referring to those stupid Aaron Sorkin guy. Just let a goddamn joke or a scene breathe, but everybody is quick-witted and snarky 24/7, and that's the tone that I'm picking up with this movie from the trailer.

I disliked both The Newsroom and that White House stuff — Aaron Sorkin's work just isn't my cup of tea at all. But I did enjoy Succession, so I'll give this one a chance.

I'll be surprised if this doesn't end up being a movie about "billionaires (especially Musk) are bad and have too much power".

What's that show supposed to be about?

When aging media mogul Logan Roy unexpectedly delays his retirement, his four adult children—Kendall, Shiv, Roman, and Connor—begin maneuvering for control of the family empire. Each sibling brings different strengths and flaws to the table, and as alliances shift and betrayals unfold, the battle for succession becomes a ruthless game of ambition, manipulation, and survival.

I just started. All of 5 minutes in. Concept so far is a group of that were best friends are getting together at one of their houses for a 36 hour party. They don't all like each other at this point, but they're still getting together. The Elon Musk of the group just launched a huge update on his twitter without actually having the tools to control it, so he's going to ask the AI person if they have the ability to manage it. Oh yeah, and there's one of them that was diagnosed with something and will die between 5 and 15 years from now.

Ok, I've seen all of it now. Took a while because I kept taking breaks. It's not a very good movie. The AI guy was a douche, and the other 3 turned against him and decided to kill him, but they did not succeed. Every time they tried, one or more would pussy out and they could never get it done. The attempts to kill him were pushing him down a 3-story flight of steps, suffocating him with a pillow while he sleeps (which turned into dropping a bowling ball on his stomach a few times), then trapping him in a sauna and maybe cooking him over night or just setting it on fire. They ultimately met the same goal as if he had died by calling in lawyers and shit to sell off the AI portion of his business. Don't waste your time.

never gonna watch but do these billionaires have no staff at their vacation house or something? the trailer shows nobody but them, i find that literally impossible. 4 billionaires getting together would have like a staff/security of 200+

unless they have AI sexbots or something and thats the twist, but that is basically the movie Companion

No one at all but them. Then at the end, they call in some staff to hash out a deal to purchase the one guys shares in his AI company. But it was realistically, a movie about 4 people. And even after 3 tried to murder the 4th, it was "ahh... no hard feelings. Shit happens." type of response. It wasn't a stressful situation, even though they tried to make it tense.

They tried to straddle the line of the plausible and unplausible too hard... because "comedy" will make it believable or at least funny? That was what they were hoping.

The Mountainhead characters are at the same time the most intelligent, but also the dumbest, self-flagellating narcissists on the planet. They tried to build these guys up Tech lottery winners that got some money, got some influence, and now think they can buy and control literal countries and "let the evil murdering commence!" None of the nuance that they were able to pull off in Succession is present in this movie.

Succession worked because they made everyone but Logan Roy utterly incompetent from day one. Through their ambition and lust for power, they had small victories that would inevitably blow up in their faces. That was entertaining and often times hilarious.

At the end of the day, it is a Elon Musk hit piece. You can probably throw Zuckerberg, Peter Thiel, Sam Altman, and a few other guys on the fire as well. The creator's political and world view is on full display here.
