I'll defend my Grandmas possible welding skills.....after going through war and still holding up after 80yrs, I'm guessing the welds are good, just ugly. :)

One thing that stood out to me (because I have welders who work for me) is how shitty the welds were on that WW2 armor. I guess thats what you got with women working the factories. All the skilled guys were drafted or enlisted.
Plus, I imagine they were cranking them out as fast as possible. Not much time for inspections.
