I'm torn. I find myself really enjoying the harvesting and crafting which is almost never the case for me in an MMO but I do usually like it in Survival-type games which this almost feels like in some regards. The combat feels disjointed from the rest of the game, mobs giving almost no level xp but being basically required to be grinded on to some degree for weapon skills, or I solo kill a player and get like 3000 weapon xp instantly. I hate the "main story quest" where I have to run to the Fisherman house then run to some ruins 5 miles away then go back to the fishermans house repeat 5x, reminds me of the Waking Sands bullshit from FF14 but the environments look and sound nice so at least I have something to look at while I'm running back and forth. Woodcutting feels like there's a tier of tree missing for like level 25 or 30.

I've alt+f4 "this fucking game sucks" closed it at least 5x during this last beta but now that I can't play it anymore I'm looking forward to having access again.

This is not the next big MMO IMO, I don't even think it's better than something like Wildstar, but god damn the market is dry as fuck right now and I'm willing to put up with a lot at this point for anything new in the western market.

Pretty much this.

Like I said before these things live or die on their end game. The 1-60 is tolerable and not that bad, but not amazing either, and its only a few weeks to get to 60. And after this period of 2-3 weeks is when they have to pull the stops to keep people. Who knows maybe they can pull some shit out of their ass. But from what I have seen this game has shit for end game right now.

Markets dry as fuck, as stated. There is no sub fee, as stated. So why tf do they have to pull out some miracle to keep people invested past the initial purchase? With what was linked, the content is surely there. The game is 40 bucks, so best believe that the next content patch is going to cost 25 bucks. Do you guys think theyre just being generous with the initial launch price? Shit is going to be GW2/ESO in terms of how you're going to get new content and that shouldnt surprise you.

As for combat, there are probably some very prominent people on both side of the argument. One in letting the game difficulty slide down to LCD levels, and the other side trying to hold onto their vision of ARPGMMO combat. Both sides have pull, but right now the LCD side is winning.

If they had been making the type of game it is currently from the start, I think they would be much better off. But because they changed from a completely different type of game and only really started the regular mmo content in the last year or so they are quite behind what people expect. It would probably be a much deeper game with 1-2 years more worth of them working on content for their current vision of the game, but I assume pressure from above would never let that happen(as its already been delayed a bunch while changing from survival game to a typical mmo).

I expect most people are going in thinking 1-2 months of fun for 40 bucks and then move on. Hopefully if they try to make another game they have much better focus/management on what type of game they want and stick with it all the way through. Changing the game so much so late was bad for business.

I am curious why they switched from survival game to a typical MMO. Survival games can do pretty damn well for a decent time. If all they were after is box sells.

Because at its heart its still an MMO which its game systems rely on mass of people playing it. So if they roll out, say, 100 servers at launch which get packed and then a month later people skate they will have problems. Their whole end game relies on faction vs faction warfare which is kinda not doable without people. So they will try to maybe merge servers? Which is another death knell for the game because once people see mergers they auto think dead game and like lemmings people follow and quit. Like has happened in many games before.

Also rolling out more content for bucks is fine if your game has tons of it already. Not so much in this game. Sure the 1-60 game is done but end game is lacking. If you think people will shell out another $40 a month or two in for more content (that should be in base game) then you are mistaken. Some will sure, but many will not.

But hey I could be wrong and this game might be a hit. Who the fuck knows. From what I have seen though the end game is very lacking. Once you hit 60 and grind out some gear do a few of the laggy ass 50 vs 50 battles youre pretty much done. Unless you have a hard on with grinding those.

Honestly, I think it's pretty naive thinking all they care about is box sales. It being a sub-free MMO, I fully expect micro-transactions to become an integral part of their income beyond the initial box sale. Also keep in mind the game is hosted on their servers using their bandwidth -- it's not like they can sell 100 million boxes and call it the day. The costs their incur will continue for as long as the game's online.

Anyway, the point is, they definitely have a vested interest in keeping players longterm.

I stopped at 30 a week ago, so I only have videos to go by. But from like, this random video - lag doesnt look bad at all. (Have to sort through all the old ass videos from last year that definitely had chunking / lag issues.) Both of the teams on this video look like a cluster fuck with very little coordination. Though Im comparing it to my time in PRX where we were all micromanaged to an extent. I was also trying to figure out how this streamer was running faster than everyone else cause even my Hatchet spam doesnt even run that fast? Everyone else seems to be moving around a lot slower than him.

As for Cash Shop, I can see them saying 20-25 bucks for the DLC that theyre working on right now. Probably something along the lines of "Take the fight to the Corrupted Lord of the Sands!" a month after launch. At that price point, I dont see it being that terrible. A lowish box price for entry, and then another 20-25 bucks for a DLC making it a full box price. An attempt to quell the people that get mad at early DLC's maybe? They also "hinted" at mounts being a thing once the world was larger. Wouldnt surprise me at all that if the player count starts to largely dip that they would throw mount unlock into the first DLC as well. If anyone paid attention to the forum dev tracker, they had very little input on any suggestions/changes - but answered just about all the bug / exploit / lag issues. Basically, they really did just only do this Beta for a stress test and achieved that pretty well. While the design side seemed to only rarely pop in, so theyre busy with something - likely looking / taking feedback.

These 50 vs 50 wars they have going on are fucking laaaag fests. Soon as like 20+ people go to a point the game literally stops. Everyone I have seen so far has been like this.

Did you, or did you not, get to max level during beta?

PVP is pretty fun.

I respeced a few times to play around with different abilities and it seems as though a couple decisions made do dramatically affect the way you approach fights. Shield stun turned me into a competent player, and I started winning a lot of duels, finishing people off with penetrating shot.

Game is good.

PvP is definitely fun. I sat around and dueled a buddy for 2 hours straight last night before they turned the servers off. Good sign for a combat system IMO.

The combat shines in very small scale like 1 v 1, 3 v 3 type situations (though even in that, 1 guy is probably fucked instantly). The large scale stuff is a mess as it is in the majority of these games, I just want them to get Siege stuff right and at least the 20v20 Fort stuff is a bit clunky but a step in the right direction.

Crafting and Gathering is BY FAR the strongest part of this game. Honestly they need to add in a 'master system' to allow people to specialize into one gather/craft at max skill to go even further beyond. Having everyone able to get to the max level in everything is good for solo grinders, but makes tradeskilling as the top end of weapons/armor seem less worthy. I'd rather have a "arcane guy" or "clothier guy" who gets the REAL good shit. I'm thinking they add that in at some point, probably with a tradeskill expac/dlc.

Game will 100% be fun for 2-4 weeks if you have a few friends to play with. After that who knows, but it's a box price so consider it a console game you're going to get 10x-20x more hours out of than your normal SeXboX game.

That works until they nerf shit and then you feel like your investment was wasted...like WoW. At least with omnicrafting, you have a fallback.

I think you're vastly underestimating just how rare components are to get Voidbent gear. Put this thought into your mind - Out of all the Iron Nodes you mined, how many pieces of Fae Iron did you get? The challenge in this game isnt getting to 200, but getting the mats at 60. I personally would rather it be this way so I dont have to tip toe around some jack ass. People were still complaining about the drop rates of those mats even with the 2000 luck modifier food. Much less getting luck on every piece of gear so you get good enough rolls on chests and monsters. I'm looking forward and dreading the grind at the same time.

I think it's really going to "require" being on the right faction with gathering bonuses, as well as house based gathering bonuses, max skill, gear with + mods, and food, to really "farm" the stuff effectively. You're making effectively raid level gear; I would imagine it takes a raid level effort.

Legit miss just running around in the world; mob diversity is trash in the first 25 levels or so, but it's fun. Had to hold back on doing any sort of gathering/grinding the last couple of days because I don't want to repeat things in live, but it's a sign that I wanted to do stuff in the game.
