That's wild to me, why not build it to max size, and have 1 end of the rink designed to have modular board inserts to shrink it down as needed?

Seems like a simple solution to me, but what the fuck do I know.

There's so much fuckery that goes into building arenas. I know, I helped build an ice surface just a few years ago. Getting everything just right is so hard. You have to be sure you have adequate coverage from your chiller, the right amount of cement, and then be able to anchor the boards without hitting your refrigerant line. So much can go wrong.

That said, this is an international stage with adequate funding. It's inexcusable they're so far behind. I guarantee something stupid will happen when they start using that arena at full capacity. Something like the bathrooms back up, or the ice lacks durability, or the water isn't clear enough from reverse osmosis so you can't see the lines. Something stupid is going to happen.

They will be playing 3 games a day on that ice right from the get go, less than an a month after completing construction. The women's games start I think three days before the men's. It will be a total miracle if there aren't ice free patches in that rink by day three. They will be running the Zamboni constantly to build up that ice overnights there. This is gonna be shit show, on top of the rink being 3 feet short. I played when I was younger and the game is totally different on international size and nhl size ice. They are going to notice that missing three feet bigtime with how big most players are now.

Apparently the games they played in Sweden this year and for the Beijing Olympics had the same length ice. I wonder about the quality of the ice though. Not much time to get it right.

My fantasy team agrees with this. Wasted my 2nd pick on Q Hughes. Fuck is going on over in Vancouver man?

Because Frank Aquilini can't get over the 2011 finals and do a goddamn proper rebuild.

10+ years of "retools!"

We get our once in a generation franchise D man and cant build a proper fucking team around him due to this stupidity.

Oh yeah we lose to Buffalo tonight as well.

Honesty, aside from blaming the owner:

- Van has no centre depth at all. Our centre depth consists of recent young AHL graduates, a 4th line centre playing as a 1st line centre which has resulted in a winger having to be converted to 4th line centre.
- We just got back our injury prone #1 goalie who was out for a few weeks
- Quinn Hughes looks exhausted playing 29+ minutes a game and trying to carry his team on his broken back (not working that well this season).
- A new aggressive style of play which is not matching well with our current roster construction

Yikes what was Edmonton thinking.

I fucking hate teams bailing out Pittsburgh on their shit contracts. We've seen this before from Jarry too often to think he's going to fix anything up in Edmonton. Maybe I'm wrong and he finally puts it together...but seems a little unlikely. Pens could turn around and flip Kulak and even Skinner at the deadline as rentals for even more picks, too. All while clearing cap space. Fucking Edmonton.

It's funny, saw a piece about the Capitals being a possible suitor for Hughes, but I just don't see that happening. If Ovi and Carlson were a little younger/likely to play more than just this season here, maybe you go all in like that. We'd almost certainly have to include Cole Hutson going back to Van in the trade, though, likely with a decent roster player and a pick. All with Hughes able to just walk after next season to Jersey. With the talent we have in the pipeline next couple years, and some guys on some stupidly good contracts (Thompson, Strome, Protas), I'd rather not try to all in for Ovechkin's last year and just keep building.

It's going to be Detroit or Jersey long term for Hughes.

I'm not sure if the Devil's are completely sold on Jack Hughes due to his injury history. Quinn would also push Luke off PP1. Overall, I think having Quinn would screw over Luke's development unless one of them switches to the right side. There's redundancy if Quinn signs in Jersey.

Detroit would be attractive as they're an ascending team with many good young players. They're also where the Hughes family live at during the offseason.

Quinn can sign with the Red Wings and wait for Jack to join him in a few years (Jack's contract runs out in 2030).

Both of those make much more sense than in DC. Even just looking at our blueline, we have Chychrun, Sandin, and Fehervary all signed for the next few years at least. Not that I wouldn't trade any of them for him in a heartbeat (I might hesitate a little on Chychrun, he's starting to evolve a bit into his peak form which is pretty damn good and he's already signed to a long term deal). But with Carlson and TvR both UFA at the end of this year, we're already likely to have someone playing their off side once Cole Hutson comes up. We actually really need some right shooting D depth.

Agree Devils are in a weird spot, too. They almost seem ready to make big jump, but not quite sold yet on their full core (Jack's injury history a big reason).

I want to add the Devils are looking for more foward help - Canucks need a 2nd line centre and they've targeted Dawson Mercer in any trade involving Quinn.

I'm not sure if the Devils are willing to part with any of their significant forward pieces when they can wait 2 years for Quinn to possibly make it to free agency.

The Canucks will trade Quinn this year - almost any aspiring Cup team would drool to have two shots at the cup with him (cheap cap hit under 8 mill) on board prior to his FA.

Good bye sweet prince.

Go break some ankles for the Wild.

I'm reading the players we got back are all 1st rounders with an unprotected 1st in this year's draft.

Can never win in a Quinn Hughes trade.

That's quite a haul for Hughes. Buium is a stud young LD, Rossi had 60 points last year? Plus another prospect and a 1st.

Yea this seems like a true rebuild plan. Not sure what Minne gonna do with him if he wants out to NJ. Then again staals wanted to play and that never happened so maybe this never happens either.
