Trying to hit the cap floor. They still need to spend 7 mil more to be there. I think all three of these contracts probably only stay on the books for 2-3 of their years, by then you are calling up all the guys that were drafted to replace them.
Not saying I like signing Nurse, tho...

Oh I agree it's way better then Raddysh. I just feel we're becoming team old guys.
Still we got some decent prospects in the pipe. Interested to see O'Reilly this year and hopefully Geekie learns how to skate, tall lanky goofy ass.
Would be funny if this Russian we drafted 54th overall is Kuch 2.0 (he's not but kuch apparently is his idol and they got drafted near the same spot so it's funny)

In terms of young studs and their place in the league, gotta rank 'em Mack, Schaeffer, Carlsson. Is he worth $18M a year in a vacuum currently? Maybe not, but with rising cap and the fact he's a legit 1C going forward...fuck it.

Nah he's obviously a super star and you have to look at it from both a business perspective (he'll get buts in the seats) and the cap increasing nearly 25M in the next 3 years. That's not that much of a handicap for what, lets call it Draisaitl/Hughes tier level contract.
People underestimating Philly too. They really aren't that bad. They got knocked out (by a sweep but it was closer then the sweep would lead you to believe) by the Stanley Cup champs. This kind of talent gives them a real shot at a SC.
Now has he proven himself is definitely up for debate. But I don't think it's that much of a gamble.
Bedard/Cel/Schaeffer all gonna be making similar or more.

1) To ever have a chance of an offer sheet not being matched you have to either overpay, have a poison pill or both.
2) Even his value is a $12 million dollar #1C, if you look at acquisition cost, four picks in the 20-30 region and 6 million dollars of dead cap (the over pay) is pretty good deal. Ducks screwed themselves as they were fighting over 1 million and now have to pay 6 more than they wanted to to retain their own player.
If yzerman had been able to ship Larkin out for Boldy and offer sheeted Carlson at $18m I would be over the moon

I'm a little more skeptical on their place in the East even with him. They kind of snuck in the playoffs this year on a ton of loser points, and hoping that Vladar doesn't turn into a pumpkin going forward. Even if he doesn't, Carolina isn't going anywhere, the Caps have loaded up, and in theory, if Jersey can ever figure out their shit, they should be in the mix as well.
