Links awakening and its remake- the Zelda as main game is also good if you like that style as well- it uses the awakening remake engine / visuals.

I've been thinking for years they should re-release A Link Between Worlds on Switch using the same engine they made Link's Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom with.

I'd also like A Link to the Past with the same engine, but the art style of SNES pixels hasn't aged a day, I still find it beautiful.

Was a big reason I never got very far in BoTW. Just got annoyed. That and the massive amounts of just open space got boring.

It’s not that barren… I did all shrines, all Devine beasts and mainline plot with no fast travel ever… was actually way more fun than when I did a normal play.

BOTW was Myamoto being blown away by Skryim and wanting to make his own version of it in the Zelda universe. The end result came too late to break any new ground and it had some features that made it both frustrating (weapons breaking as mentioned) and not really feel like a Zelda game (little to no dungeons, not many actual tools/items to collect since they're already in your tablet).

I wouldn't call it an awful game, it was beautiful and it's really quite well done, but it was never really going to outshine the classic games for me.

I'd prefer for Zelda to go in a different art direction after TOTK, and hopefully Ocarina of Time remake is a step in that direction based on what little we saw in the announcement video.

BotW has to be the most divisive universally acclaimed game ever. I consider it second only to Elden Ring in the past decade.

It’s probably the greatest game to bear the Zelda name, despite me considering OoT to be the greatest “true” Zelda game.

BotW would be great if the weapon breaking wasn't in the game. That single feature makes me despise it.

I agree it was very frustrating, but part of me also thinks it made me play the game differently and made it a bit more interesting and challenging because I'm usually the kind of guy that uses one weapon for a whole game or at least a small selection of weapons/items, but BOTW's weapon system made me have to think outside the box at times when my arsenal was running low, or I had to use alternate strategies to kill enemies with boulders, falls, throw a metal item for lightning strikes on groups of enemies, set fire to grass near a camp of moblins, etc...

By the end of it, I had a near streaming supply of amazing weapons. I dunno. It was my least favorite “feature” but it didn’t really detract or supply that much friction to me.

I think they even know they fucked up because you can get a buff that disables it temporarily from the Zelda Notes app on the switch 2 (with some luck). They would probably move a million more units if they allowed it to be a toggle tomorrow. There is no world where it is fun to have 20 weapons break in a boss fight and have to use the environment to squeak by. Its horrible game design.

The weapon breakage just made me not engage with much of the world, I avoided combat at all costs except when mandatory meaning I ran by camps of enemies cause I would end up using weapons and materials just to usually get..... more weapons and materials.

And I despise open menu to eat one of 50 heal items. In actual Zelda you had to put a heal potion in your tool slot

All part of Nintendo's obsession with extending the play time of their games using menial shit. Its why the robots in Metroid Dread existed - to drag the game out.

This. Granted, I only played TotK but I assume it's the same in BotW, but pausing the game to scroll through an item menu during combat? Completely breaks any flow. What kind of retarded game design is this?
