Idk if they're unique enough to be it's own genre. It's a mish mash of ARPG, souls-like, hack n slash. Pretty much everything in it has been in other games before. Just because they're higher speed doesn't mean souls-like isn't a good descriptor for it.

Nioh is just a hack n slash ARPG. It's not even a Soulslike. We had hard action games before Demons Souls came out, shit like Ninja Gaiden Black is a very obvious predecessor to Nioh.

Also they have gone mad, two builds on the fly complete with their own equipment sets.
Literally double the amount of gear to perfect. Too early to say but my axe build might have to retire with how good single sword ninja is.

Dude I loved the single katana in the alpha. The moon sword move or whatever you call it could be chained like three times iirc. It was devastating.
