I got a kusari-gama early on and nothing else for the rest of the demo had even close to its attack value. Not sure what's up with that, but it was effective and that's my preferred weapon type anyway. It will probably end up being one of the weaker ones by late game though, just based on how similar it feels to the Nioh version.

Has anyone else seen something similar with their drops? Here's the item in question:

It's only level 7 and yet the next highest attack I have is a bunch of level 10 uchigatanas that are still only listed at 108. But considering how much slower single sword moveset is that's not really comparable either. The actual second best weapon I've found is a L13 dual uchi that's 95 attack. I assume it's just something weird about that crescent moon base, since even the other kusarigamas that are higher level aren't even close to its damage either. AFAIK the star only means it has an orange affix and has no effect on other stats. Also, this was taken before I did the crucible and none of the weapons that dropped inside were competitive either. Definitely try to get a single sword (samurai, not ninja) while you're in that crucible though, the special art on it is pretty broken.

Overall after playing the demo I think the whole samurai/ninja swap thing is really dumb, but as long as its possible to run a full ninja build that only shifts to samurai when absolutely necessary (i.e. R2 counters) I'm not going to complain too much. I've always hated having to master Ki Flux bullshit in this series. Need to try a run through of the demo on PC to see whether it's worth considering there or if I should just stick with PS5 as usual.

Considering playing this before Nioh 1 and 2 if it's significantly easier than they are, which people are saying but we don't really know yet beyond the demo.
The whole series is massively front-loaded with its difficulty. Once you can get gear that actually makes a good build they are about as easy as the genre gets. I think that's why some people are saying the demo feels way too easy. The open world allows you to run around and easily outlevel everything to the point where you can button mash to victory, whereas in the previous mission-based games you actually have to git gud to complete the missions. The only difficult fight that's not optional in the demo is the very first boss. Most of the optional ones are super easy too, it's pretty much just Bloodedge Demon and Mezuki that will bend you over if you aren't prepared.

It's still 127 base, you'll find better. Maxed out familiarity is what's bumping it up to 206. I have a level 15 or 16 purple tonfa I found in the crucible that was 302 base without familiarity I believe it was. I am rolling mostly samurai so I haven't used it yet but I hear tonfa's are just as nuts as Nioh 2. Most of the higher level weapons I've gotten in the crucible have been from revenants.

This game is shaping up to possibly be a 100% for me. It's the Ghost of Tushima thing where I enjoyed the combat so much that I explored everywhere and did everything. 100% all zones in that and close to having done that now with this demo, only have the last mission left. Can definitely outlevel things and the constant replenishment of the ninja skills add to it. Encountered one of those claw monsters (the first time I fought it, it gave me trouble) and this time 4 shrapnel bombs killed it.

Will absolutely buy this. Enjoy it alot.

I haven't seen one with higher base yet, even ones that dropped at like level 13-16. I know something will eventually once we're past the demo area, but it still seems weird.

Do they drop crucible weapons? I want to see what the kusarigama art is like, but every single one that I've gotten in there has been a normal weapon so far. Haven't tried farming revenants though.

Ran missions mode inn co-op testing all the available weapons, short version it appears you can just use whatever weapon you feel is cool/fun and build stats towards them. Superior builds will always emerge end game, that said as of now I am going to go glaive and Talons/INT build. The way magic and binding summons works is interesting.

Yeah, about all you need to do at this point is pick two weapons that scale off a common stat.

Armor is pretty much the same. The only stats I really pay attention to are plain old +life and life gain on purification, maybe equip drop % if it's a blue roll (6-8%). Beyond that just use whatever has the highest armor, while always keeping Agility B (<70%) and Toughness in the green (>130).

Anyone know what the reward is for beating the demo by Feb 15th?

And what constitutes beating the demo? I beat the first boss and got out into the open world, then took out a few crucibles and wandered around fighting things for a while before I turned the game off. The PS5 dashboard says 17% for the demo. I got pretty close to the goal on the world map (think it's a castle) before I stopped. If there isn't much more I might as well go ahead and beat the demo, if there's a lot more I'll probably call it here.

Do the story mission, you get a pop up that tells you.

Going back and playing Nioh 2...Nioh 3 feels like "ubisoft does Nioh". Doesnt feel nearly the same level of challenge.

It's a demo. You don't want to scare off every normie by telling them they get a 'bonus' in the full game if they beat the demo, then the demo pushes their shit in. Can't wait for the full game to come out. One of my favorite series for sure.

I ended up in the central crucible area and couldn't get out of there, some sort of ruined city. It's where the Hamamatsu Incident directed me to go.

Looked into it and the demo is about 6 hours long, the reward for beating it is this helmet:

Ehhh. I dunno. Unless it has some huge stats, not going to bother.

You just have to finish the area you're in. It's a crucible zone, which is basically just like doing a mission from Nioh 1/2. If you buy the game you're going to have to clear it to actually leave the newb area, so might as well do it now to get the bonus. Plus it's good to have a bunch of crucible weapons so you can max familiarity on the weapon types you like to unlock the crucible art. At absolute minimum it's worth farming a samurai single sword, you can use it to cheese any human enemy you might struggle with later on.

------------

Still can't decide between PC and PS5 after running through the demo on both. I guess it comes down to putting up with either overall lower quality visuals on PS5 vs. losing HDR/OLED TV, stereo instead of surround sound, and having to use FSR + framegen on PC. They actually support ultrawide well on PC, but imo it doesn't really do much in a game like this anyway.

Took me 5 hours while fucking around, can probably do it in 3 if you mainline the story. Though I am at 20 hours in the demo doing co-op runs and testing weapons.
