Yeah, I mean, this would make me go back and get into games I didn't finish or haven't played in a while, like Hogwarts and Starfield.

Unfortunate to let his shitlip politics creep into this one. Conflict of interest or outright corruption on the topic re trump very valid. However he sneaks in twice that the .gov murdered Pretti or whatever the fuck the balding jew was. Unrelated.
This guy has gone down the political bullshit route for a while now. It's too bad because he used to be good. When you dive into his background you start to question if he has some sort of Chinese government backing or something (he lived there for years and knows the language).

These examples don't even look like the same model assets, as in they aren't manipulating the same data they are loading something entirely different if it detects DLSS5 is on.

Reminds me of those cars that faked their emissions data when detecting they were being tested, but in reality it tanks the performance hardcore to do it.

Yeah gonna wait to see that performance hit. Also feels like it'll make a lot of games looks same-ish because it'll apply a generic lightning filter on everything that'll ruin some artistic choices. Although for games that are just trying to look like Hollywood movies it'll look great I guess. Notably though I wonder what it'll do with anime or cartoon style design, like all the examples they've taken are pretty photorealistic games to begin with(or trying to at least), how well will it work with more stylized artstyle, colorful things.

Also from the wording, it sounds like it's exclusive to 50xx

lol, the last bullet point of this Gemini summary is a doozy

This video from Digital Foundry provides a first look at Nvidia's DLSS 5, a groundbreaking technology set to arrive in Fall 2026 for RTX 50-series GPUs. Unlike previous iterations focused on resolution or frame rates, DLSS 5 utilizes machine learning to bring photo-realistic lighting to video games (0:21). The technology attempts to skip generations of hardware advancements by bypassing traditional rendering pipelines to achieve next-gen visual fidelity (1:06).

The video showcases the technology in four distinct scenarios, highlighting the massive jump in fidelity:

  • Resident Evil Requiem (1:31): The demo transforms a path-traced scene, creating highly realistic skin texture, lighting on hair strands, and enhanced specular highlights in the eyes (2:04).
  • Starfield (5:04): DLSS 5 enhances the lighting on a character's clothing and face, transforming a flat-looking image into one with realistic subsurface scattering and contact shadows (6:03).
  • Oblivion Remastered (7:06): In this Unreal Engine 5 title, DLSS 5 radically upgrades character rendering and environmental lighting, specifically enhancing occlusion on brickwork (7:30).
  • Assassin’s Creed Shadows (8:41): The AI improves shadow mapping and foliage lighting, making the environment look as though it has complex ray-traced shadows without the performance cost (9:12).
Key Takeaways and Future Implications:

  1. AI Rendering vs. Artistic Intent (12:52): The discussion touches upon whether this technology enhances a developer's vision or overrides it, as the AI imposes its own interpretation of lighting based on the scene (13:17).
  2. Implementation (10:05): DLSS 5 integrates into Nvidia Streamline, allowing developers to tune the output, though it may be controversial if applied via mods to games not designed for it.
  3. Performance (11:24): While currently demonstrated using two RTX 5090 GPUs, the goal is for DLSS 5 to run on a single consumer GPU by launch (11:36).

Reminds me back in the day when TV companies were trying to make motion smoothing / high frame rates a thing and it made everything look like a soap opera.

That shit is still enabled in Hotel rooms and some Airbnb's. I turn it off at the Airbnb's while on vacay but the damn hotel screens are locked down.

Their full release on it, out this fall. A few more videos, and interactable elements to compare.

I'm leaving Nvidia alone for now. #1 I'm not sure I can afford their 'coming soon to X' treadmill of adding crap to games I finished 2 years ago and #2, and this is the big one: They need to fix their fucking power connector burning up problem.

EDIT: Just saw the 2 5090 comment , lol holy fuck what a lying sack o shit they are. More of their 'coming soon' BS I bought with the 2080ti & 3080ti.

I was in a 4 star hotel last year, somehow I was able to stream to every tv from my phone.

The lobby TV shut down after 3 minutes of porn. Maybe a technical issue, dunno.

I'm weird, and unless I'm watching an actual movie, I'm more than ok with my TV shows / anime being 60fps. Might be a byproduct of years of gaming at high frames.
