Already debt free, that allowed me to switch careers. They can’t keep building data centers endlessly, feels like the oil people where it is really good then laid off for years at a time.

I don't think it worked that way this time for some reason. Oil prices went up, oil well count did not. Kept checking the weekly oil well count and it was up a couple and the most since February was +12 from a year ago. Of course the roughnecks aren't in charge of when/what to drill. If more wells had gone in it very well would have been boom and bust again.

OTOH, these opportunities are worth looking into. There could be huge demand for people at your stage of career. Sacrifice home life for a few years to be at the pointy end of tech. Plus....building NEW stuff is a lot more fun than fixing old shit. And you get to work with people who really know what's going on. You learn a lot more a lot faster this way.

Do this, and your upgrades will fly at you. And after spending 5 years with this tech, doing smaller stuff makes you feel like a god among men. And at the ripe old age of 50, you can open your own business doing whatever. There is no failure mode for electricians like there are for people sucking wet dino farts out of the ground.

I’d definitely get in that van if the driver offered ice cream.
