Decided to give it its own thread instead of just bumping the Outward 1 thread.

I loved the first one so I'm really looking forward to this, but hasn't it been in development hell and these guys are practically out of money?

I loved Outward 1 and look forward to playing Outward 2 when it releases in *checks release date* Q4 2028.

Outward 1 was ball crushingly hard. Something about the character controls and animation locks was off.

First one was a endless test of patience with all the jank. Had some good times but never made it far.

Outward 1 had everything I should like in a game. Focus on exploration. Tons of quests, low amount of handholding, loot, and a difficulty that had a good risk/reward ratio. I also liked the asthetics and graphics. Sort of like an old school Gothic/Risen game.

That said…. I’ve tried to start this about a dozen times. Even individually bought all the DLCs as they came out. And each time thought «this will be the time I start a full run». But each time i last for a few hours and just…. Quit. It (at least in the start) feels so punishing that the jank, while something that can probably be overlooked later, just makes me frustrated.

every time I watch someone stream it, I instantly want to play it because l should love it. But when I try … I just can’t get far into it.

Is sequel straight to release or EA first?

I haven't heard any statements from the developers regarding this but... I think it's believable. In 2024, Nine Dots announced that they were working on three games: Outward 2, Lost in Prayer, and Witherbloom, all (assumedly) off the backs of Outward. Witherbloom hasn't had any updates since last year, but Lost in Prayer did release in early access this year and... well...

I don't know how many people they have on their team but this is rough numbers for even a solo developer. If they don't have someone else footing the bill, I wouldn't assume things are going well. Regardless, I loved Outward so I'll buy and play Outward 2, even if it ends up being not as great as the first.
