i did see that the pal world specs required 16 gigs of r am and wanted 32....and with the ram crazyness going on, the built laptop sites do not seem to want to throw in ram on olde models haha. i found a plethora of 30xx and 40xx but they didn't have 'options' to add more ram. i presume they want to clear out the old models and only offer (overpriced) ram on the new, also overpriced video card laptops.

It's like fast travel in the fallout/elder scrolls games. It's in the game, therefore I am forced to do it while I complain about how it ruins the game.

Laptop specs tend to be more annoying to deal with. I think 16gb should be "enough", that said you might run into issues, the game doesn't fully leak memory but it seems to increase from the initial ~10gb on a fresh start to like 15-16gb after a few hours but it might flush more on lower systems. Some older posts from release state that even 8gb ran "fine" but well with more stuff added it's probably not a good idea(and in general 8gb is just not enough nowadays if you want to play games).

Fast Travel is different, it's a main feature, skipping progression via cheese is entirely self inflicted stuff. It's like cheating(even legit cheating like turning the server settings all the way up and such) so it's really not hard not to do it imo if it's going to ruin my experience, meanwhile it's nice as an option if for example I wanted to do a fresh start(with the map being static though I'm not sure why I'd bother).

Yeah once I went from the initial content where Pal Metal was top tier to Plasteel I got sticker shock on how long it takes. It's definitely a transition to "post game" content where they designs everything for people who had already finished the game and had highly evolved pals.
It's fine though, it rewards you for not just blitzing through the content and instead focusing on the "Pal" half of "Pal" world like you're saying.
I'm at level 60 now and just ramped up my Plasteel production. I've been mostly focused on breeding pals and am finally getting some top tier pals with perfect trait. 3x Renjishi with Artisan, Remarkable Craftsmanship, Work Slave and Insomnia can blow through a lake of oil to make stacks of Plasteel super fast with the Gigantic Furnace.

Coming back to this, I'd say that this is no longer the case at the midgame that I'm at now. You can build pretty much anywhere that isn't stupid and the placeable resource buildings can support you. There are still advantages to building in areas near resources but it's not the massive benefit it used to be.

Yea the only real need for a 2nd base I've found is for oil fields, everything else can be handled with the production mines now more or less.
The electric cost on the high pressure oil rig though is absolutely not worth it, way easier still to just plop down a basic outpost on top of 3 oil nodes somewhere

Petered out on d4 so firing this up. Played it for a little bit waaaaaaaay back when it first came out but didn't even come close to finishing it or anything. Anyone know if hacking is still a big problem online?

There's 0 reason to play on a publicly available server. All the good base locations will be taken, all the chests and collectables farmed, it'll be laggy.
The locally run dedicated server is like 2 buttons to set up if you want a persistent world, otherwise just host and play locally or pay Indifferent Broccoli 5$ for a server.

I think games like this could probably make use of the psuedo online/multiplayer aspects of Path of exile, dark souls, etc.
online for global chat.
allowing for inviting back to your server to show off your builds. for killing raid bosses, or dungeon runs. and other co-op potentially.

wow, that's impressive. I've gotten many of my best passive skills from mutated eggs too, but to get a pal with four very strong passives that also has a top 20 breeding power is very good.

Meh, official servers are obviously far from ideal but I had way more fun on Ark playing on dedicated servers with other people than I would've just running around on single player. I suppose this isn't quite the same as Ark tho, especially as far as base building spots and being able to show off cool shiny colors and stuff.

I've gotten several mutated with 4 of these high tier skills but they're usually mixed with dogshit ones/crafting ones so yeah haven't gotten anything particularly good.
I've been setting up my breeding farm, takes a while to even really get started but finally done with like getting the bronchios or whatever maxed for the 100% alpha eggs, the weird cat for 75% double eggs, the other dino for 50% breeding speed and the new bird for 40% hatch speed(although it's not active yet cause the saddle needs the next tier of ingots I can't make yet). Now I need to figure out what pal I actually want in my team and max them out. And I'm only doing condensing so far getting perfect passives is a whole other can of worms I'll get to later on.

Sounds like we're doing the same thing. My breeding base is rolling and I've got the Grintale and Dynamoff tiered up, but that reminds me I need to make the Braloha saddle. Also the Broncherry Aqua gives a 45-55% chance that every egg you pick up is an alpha, which you'll want for your combat pals...
I haven't looked at what is "meta" and whatever is meta is probably too hard for me to capture but my first good passive combat crew is going to be:
Ophydia: Gives player soak ability (Is buildable at level 72 or 74 which I didn't know before I made this plan, I'm level 66 now...)
Elgrove Cryst: Gives player ability to freeze soaked pals
Muffly: Increased chance to catch frozen pals
Yakumo: Duplicates pal passives
And then whatever flyer, possibly Beakon which changes player attack to electric, but I'll probably just get a fast flyer and stick with it. If I'm in tough content I might swap one of the above with Silvegis which I just tiered up this morning and haven't really tried (Improves shield). I figure that'll help me catch some of the tougher Pals with great stats.
There's a bunch of good info out there about Pals but somehow nobody has made a 1.0 spreadsheet that nerds can use to sort their own data. So I combined a bunch of different info into
