With my experience with ES, recharge rate was usually the least of my concerns and was easy enough to get high enough of. Faster start of recharge and ways to not interrupt recharge always seemed more important.

Looks like Boneshatter got a buff from rolling slam changes. Shield wall nerfs though. :( Cant believe they nerf shield wall but not shit like twister, lol.

Recombs being removed combined with being able to upgrade the base type on uniques is gonna do interesting things to endgame.

The cost/rarity of very high end rares is gonna go through the roof, and there are quite a lot of unique weapons that will be *extremely* good by just being on a real base now.

Tried the Twister a bit and it's strong but I don't know if it's my thing. Tempted to go with it and change to companions but I think I'll just go for some Witch minion stuff instead.

Is there even a good skeletons/spectres build in 0.4 ?

I did mostly druid stuff (plant/wolf) myself in 0.4.

Personally I would wait and see what people come up with the new spirit walker. From everything on the patch notes it should be strong as fuck.

For minions there's 2 choices mostly, Infernal Legion Tame Beast(Infernal Legion was completely atomized this patch going from 30% of max hp to 10% of max hp BUT Tame Beast has a bunch of more dmg% on the base gem so it might not actually matter too much), basically you get a big elephant and it burns itself and everything around it, and you use weapon swap to despawn it before it dies then swap again to respawn it on top of you(similar to Convocation in PoE1) with full hp.

Second main minion currently is Powered Zealots Spectres which cast Spark, these do crazy damage with heavy eye cancer and zone saturation, they're kinda slow so it's not that great for speed clearing but it'll melt everything. Disciple of Varashtra was also added in 0.4 and that's a Sorceress ascendancy with command based minions, so it feels a bit like a hybrid of spell and minion, you point at stuff and press the minion button and the Djinns kill stuff there, it's supported by a bunch of other minions too including some spark zealots but a large part of the damage is in the command skill so it might not feel too minion-ish.

Also they added minion melee splash and minion rage as support options, so it's possible new spectres will become good, especially melee spectres.

For Spiritwalker it's still pretty up in the air. Personally my main issue atm is the tree pathing, the only really strong minion buff in that ascendancy is the 60% main hand dmg to companions but that kinda means you want a 2H, but Scepters are so strong that it feels pretty much mandatory to get Giant's Blood or Lords of the Wilds to be able to dual wield a 2H in MH with a scepter offhand, but the pathing for that is kinda atrocious. Maybe the companion specific nodes they're adding will help but hard to say. The new minion scepter unique also looks neat for companion stacking but you lose a ton of stats from not having a rare scepter so it's hard to say if it'll be worth it. And boss taming might just end up super gimmicky. So the whole thing is extremely speculative, it might look like it's good but it could end up complete dogshit, or it could end up extremely strong if you tame all the right stuff(which as a reminder is a huge PITA to do because you need to fish for specific rare mods on your beasts to make them good and that means resetting the campaign over and over until you get the right beast with the right mods).

Problem with monk is the early game. I wonder if all the changes to bases and all that makes it smoother. But man, monks early game is prob the worst of all the classes. Slog through act 1.

It is pretty dogshit but only for a few levels, like until lvl 11 or whenever you get Frost Strike. And before that yeah you just play budget caster with Glacial Cascade and Frost Locus+Frost Bomb if you want to stick to Monk shit, or mule some other weapon and skill. Personally I like playing builds more or less asap so I tend to just stick with the inefficient stuff because I don't mind wasting a bit of time but otherwise yeah just start as a ranger and grab the stuff from your stash when you restart as a monk.

Monk is certainly double early game and with the upcoming additions of better leveling bases and runic ward, early game across the board is going to be less of a slog.

Monk + Ice is my favorite flavor of archetype for PoE2, but since this seems VERY popular I'll probably wait until second character to play it. I've done monk melee cold, monk proc cold, and monk bow cold. They're pretty cool, but my knowledge of highest end mechanics is lacking to make them do more than 10-20 second t15 map boss 8 kills type of damage. So I could basically do everything but I had to do mechanics and play the game, which I like in this game moreso than PoE1.

I'll probably be one of the dumber people testing boss tames or gemling legionnaire alt quality on launch and crush my balls instead.
