League start Act 1 difficulty has never made sense to me. You're supposed to hook the player and then increase difficulty as you go but instead the campaign starts out as a pain in the ass to then gets easier. Going through it with a skill that isn't very good or you aren't meshing is horrendous and the time to get access to the skills you do want to try can be substantial. Once you've put Act 2 behind you the game gets way better but I hate the getting there part of every league.

I think they really fucked themselves on the new gem system. You really cant experiment a whole ton as a new player swapping out main skills and weapons to see what you like cause you are gated so heavily in skill gem drops. Address that and I think you can address the early game fun of this game.

Also respecs should be free until maps.

Decided to give it one more shot getting through the campaign while it's still the weekend.

What's this mean? "Repulsion is a new godly curse we can use to blast our enemies to another dimension. You can create it by pressing B with the 0.5 league mechanic." (the how to create it part)

I didn't like Huntress Whirling Slash, spent a gem on Explosive Spear, hated it too, looked at options, refuse to Lightning Arrow any more, rerolled Druid. I still want to check out Spirit Walker stuff later but I'm not doing it until I have some resources to work with.

Entangle instantly immediately good.

The new league mechanic helps massively in this area. That's one of the things they'll need to adjust once the mechanic goes "core". But the fact you can start getting extra gems to experiment with now in the early game (when it's most important) is huge.

The bigger problem is that PoE 2 still needs a substantially larger skill pool, along with balance passes on a number of the existing skills and supports that don't feel good to use. With the current roster of skills being relatively small, every weak or underperforming skill stands out far more than it would with a roster of more skills (like PoE1).

That's also why so many builds end up feeling "samey", especially during the campaign. When the total number of available skills is limited, every bad skill effectively shrinks the pool of viable options. The result is that players gravitate toward the same handful of abilities because they're the only ones that actually feel effective, making the early game seem far more repetitive than it probably needs to be.
Also respecs should be free until maps.
I don't agree with free, but I do think the gold cost needs to come down until about level 60-65ish (right about the time you hit maps).

How does the latter work?

Be martial artist to generate nearly infinite combo+spending combo starts ES recharge

Mantra of destruction costs 20 combo with delayed gratification and can be activated twice, so each one starts ES recharge

Wear prayers for rain to prevent ES recharge being interrupted (you can upgrade bases now so its like a ~450es chest)

The only problem with this is you have to activate mantra of destruction manually, so you're either mashing that button a ton, or need to cheat and automate it with a macro

Yeah, I figured it was something with Mantra of Destruction once actually investigated your suggestion. You want to activate Manta as much as possible for the extra chaos damage, so probably automating it is the answer. Just put the delay equal to your attack delay?

Though, does that mean you can't use bells?

I haven't gotten far enough in to endgame yet to know if you can fit in bell usage still. I'm hopeful you you still can, cause their combo cost is relatively low, and with generating 2 comber per hit for every attack you should have a truly gigantic amount of incoming combo

Combo is fubar with mantra of destruction


Playing jungroans hollow form whirling assault build myself and luckily dropped a Lochtonial Caress just a few levels before i could use whirling assault. The build is strong but i feel drained/kinda bored anyway after my 10.5h campaign finish. I haven't even run a map yet with some irl stuff coming in the way but i definetly could've found some time if i'd felt more compelled to.

I thought the combo thing was because Martial Master was bugged? Shouldn't that be fixed now?

I will say, Hollow Form clones not being able to proc Herald skills is wicked gay. I hope they fix it to allow that. Otherwise, you're kind of locked into Polcirkeln as one of your rings.

Yea combo was fucked initially but after the hotfix it seems to work as expected now.

I'm not even at maps yet though so maybe it breaks again later

The bottom line is the first ~50 levels of the game is not fun. It's worse than not fun even - it sucks ass and is actively hostile to the player through most of it.

Everyone arguing the minutiae of what the best 'leveling' skills are is kinda losing the forest for the trees. You shouldn't need or want to go find a leveling guide on how to best not-interact with the campaign and get to the part of the game where it starts being fun.

That's another thing they insist on not doing even though it makes no sense, skill gem vendor. Sure you can trade for some skill gems but it's clunky as fuck, and relying on drops is super RNG obviously, so you kinda need to setup your whole plan from the start and you have little leeway to experiment with random skills because the guaranteed sources of gems are very limited. Don't know why they don't have a vendor selling you gems 1 tier lower than your level allows/your highest zone for gold early on.

Having done fresh to T15 on like 20 different chars I still think the campaign is a snooze fest even though it is easy enough to do in a handful of hours. All skills should be usable by L30 at the latest and there should be more freedom to experiment without high investment at that stage of the game. The disconnect between campaign and map play is wide.

I am still uncertain if I actually want to play monk again (martial fartist ascendancy is cool, but it's still the same old shit otherwise) and so decided to take advantage of people who are bad at pricing to play hideout warrior right when I got to maps. Have made like 35d on what started as a 1d investment yolo crafting quarterstaves. This took about an hour but I was running out of gold so had to stop. Maybe reroll a twinked out something or another. ;[

I always had trouble with PoE because I started years late and the amount of systems and mechanics from seasons that went core over the years was just crazy overwhelming. Wanted to start this game from the beginning but everything I've read has not been good.
