I went the safe route the last two leagues with ignite prolif Elementalist for breach and spell totem Hiero for mirage so I've decided to get experimental with this one and go Luminiary. I'm going to level as minions and then figure out exactly what I'm doing later. Ideas include Envy/Zealotry Merc with Holy Relic of Conviction, Wrath/Zealotry Merc with Absolution plus Farrel Bloodline or Velka Bloodline or Lycia Bloodline or just be pure spectres with Wretched Defiler. Defiler is probably the hardest to fuck up but they're bad for visual clutter.

Definitely trying luminary too as I kinda skipped out on merc league after I got the Merc that had haste or zealotry. The fact mercs are tradeable in this league alleviates concerns of not getting what you really need. I'm still kind of confused if we will be able to get doryanis chest on mercs. I'm hearing they might be able to down with it but you can't swap chest pieces? If so there's gonna be mirror tier mercs out there.

Can’t imagine why anyone would play anything besides luminary. Unless they just gut mercs into the trash , it’ll be op and more importantly it’ll give you so much flexibility in how you play or changing builds. Like one ascendancy that’s equal to 50 different options.

1. They're going to be too good
2. People are going to explode to them and cry rivers of tears over failing to recruit a 1/1000 merc.
edit - I think if you buy a warrant (the merc tradeable itemization thing) you still have to fight them? People are definitely going to die to the merc they just bought and be out piles of cash.

For anyone who needs to hear it for the 6th league or so:
Guardian
SRS or Holy Relic or Absolution
These are cheap and easy starters. Both get scaled better via poison and other Ascendancies, but these are VERY easy. Holy Relic involves some lab farming and some light math early on, SRS is braindead but you'll cast a lot, Absolution is annoying until you've got good minion duration. But these are like <3 Divine builds to get 4 stones. SRS especially with a cheap Annihilation gem is amazing.

I think link skills scale with health among other stats if you were asking about Kaoms.
As for the other statement.
The skys the limit on builds that use voices since not only are those ridiculously expensive but the jewels you put in them are as well.
I guess adorned isn't as expensive as it is in poe2 so at least we aren't talking multi mirror adorns.
But then you factor in you are basically x2 all your equipment min maxing... yea this will easily be one of the most min max expensive builds in the game.

Boneshatter is always a go to league starter, breezes the campaign and early maps. The change to sockets makes it even easier to keep a good axe rolling.
But since I always like to follow a meta build that will have expensive top gear but cheaper hand-me-downs, I expect I will go winter-orb. I'm pretty sure I don't have one in my Standard stable of never-to-be-played-again characters.
I did not like the mercenary mechanics at all, and I don't want to be equipping me AND a stable of mercenaries, so I will be skipping Luminary. Sounds like it will be pretty powerful though. May try one as a second character after seeing how it fleshes out and I have some currency saved up.
