Gotchya. For me I have my setup pretty simple and it’s awesome. Xbox Bluetooth controller, a Logitech k400, and I have Nova Pro wireless headphones. When I bring my PC in, I just plug in the WiFi antenna and get awesome speeds, my Nova pro box, and HDMI which is eARC to my receiver for full surround. Basically every game is easy to fire up. I can use steam big picture mode or just select a game using my wireless keyboard mouse pad (k400) 65” OLED supports gsync and ALLM along with 120hz. Lay back in the chair and off I go. Hardest part is just moving the PC from my office to my game room which takes about 3 minutes which includes hooking it up. Using discord for voice, no more subscriptions for online, and obviously my entire steam library. I still have GP ultimate so I also get all the included PC gamepass games for now. I also have a 7800/5080 and throw everything max DLSS quality 4K and it’s so epic. Never going back.

The next big Coronal Mass Ejection that directly hits Earth ought to be interesting; people's reactions when they cannot use their phones, power is out, etc. That will be an episode of EARTH the universe will never forget!

So this might be bullshit for Revengeance, but one of Sony’s largest fuckups was PS3 having a crazy architecture with the cell processor. It’s one of the reasons why ps4, ps5, and (if rumors are true) ps6 are built all on the same architecture which basically guarantees a high level of backwards compatibility. It’s the one thing MS did right with most of Xbox (save maybe the first?) that Sony was like “duh” and did. I think PS2 had to have a ps1 built into it like early Ps2?

I was going to skip the ps5 pro since the ps6 was around the corner. But, with the cessation of disk production announcement I’ve changed my mind. I’ll probably look for one in the holiday sales. It’ll be my last PlayStation purchase.

there are also continous rumors that ps6 may be a portable system ala nintendo switch, which would make a lot of sense for the digital direction they wanna go in. So PS5 Pro for disc games and backlog, and if by some insane miracle they can actually make a good ps5/ps6 exclusive game in the future (doubt.gif) I guess you could pick up a ps6

It’s gonna be crazy if the PlayStation 6 Vita debuts and is at best a PS5 and kills. That will somehow translate to Nintendo effectively winning the console wars. And me having to finally move my PC.

But let’s be real. Nintendo doesn’t have trophies and the interface sucks compared to the XMB.

Can we call it the PlayStation Walkman?

PlayStation first party games seems to have taken a nose dive in quality in recent years. Even if they did did release something good, I’d have 5-6 years of support left on ps5 support after ps6 release. Maybe more if ps6 sales are poor. If they actually do a handheld, that might tempt me. I have a ps portal. it’s a pretty good device, but I never really found a use for it.

I’m so far behind on my Sony backlog, I could spend the next few years working on that alone. But I’m not even playing single player anything right now.

It is very obvious that Sony has, for some reason, allowed some lame-duck Westerner to lead their game development pushes for exclusives. Sony has fallen off a cliff with exclusives. Everything is Naughty Dog, dogshit levels now. It's been just about downhill since the first GoW, no? I mean, shit, even MLB The Show is 7 years behind the technology curve now.

SIE was moved near San Francisco in 2016 to take control of the gaming division from SCE Japan. It took a couple years for them to fill the division with DEI hires so games already in development weren't hit too hard. Up until 2021 the worst of it was MJ's manjaw and Felicia Hardy as a self-insert of some blue-hair freak on the writing team for Spider-Man. Pretty much everything from '22 on was fully infected, and there's no sign of that changing any time soon. People who are optimistic about Wolverine "turning things around" are delusional.

Yeah, I guess I should of been more specific, why would a OG PS5 owner buy a Pro.... I don't blame you one bit for not entertaining the idea of even getting a PS6, not sure if I'm going to....

Not sure if I'm reading out of context or you really are asking about why OG > Pro upgrade. I was an OG PS5 owner, and I upgraded to a Pro. I got a new LG TV and wanted the best gaming experience on an OLED, but that was just a bonus. My main reason was I couldn't pass up a great deal that came around. Last winter Best Buy was taking $300 trade in credit on the OG towards a Pro, AND it was $100 off msrp, AND Paypal was stacking a 20% cash back bonus. So I traded in my 5 year old OG and upgraded to a Pro for about $200 out of pocket. Now with console prices even higher, ram getting even more expensive, and PS6 sounding like a digital only box thats going to cost well over $1k, I am even more pleased I pulled the trigger on the Pro when I did. No regrets

What about games like Astro Bot? I seem to remember quite a few good first party PS5 games coming out which is partly why I'm willing to spend money on a PS5 currently.

The core of Astro Bot was already designed since it (Astro's Playroom) was originally a tech demo of sorts for the Dual Sense at launch. It would have been pretty hard to DEI a game like that anyway.

As for "games like Astro Bot" ... there really aren't any. Even Ratchet & Clank couldn't escape from their influence.

Astro Bot’s additional win design decision was, if I remember (and someone will correct me), is even the little buddies you collect and their animations are base were largely intact. The interactions you get from hitting them. A couple in there they could have tweaked but stayed funny.

I remember playing Horizon Zero Dawn for the first time, and it gave me that same feeling that, say, Splinter Cell Chaos Theory or Half-Life 2 did, where you truly felt you were playing something "next-gen". Then God of War releases a year later, and PlayStation was just dominating - absolute top of the world.

Their suicide is a top-level humiliation ritual.

Yeah, if they did layoffs that made what MS just did look like a minor bit of housecleaning.

Even if they did that who are they going to replace those people with? The HQ and the studios are all in CA or other places just as filled with woke cultists.

While it's unlikely to happen if both companies managed to clean up their studios of woke cultist and fill them with skilled people. Sony would have a much better chance to come back than Microsoft based on the strength of their first party Library.

It's not going to happen though.

While Asha is cleaning the business side of Xbox it doesn't look like she's addressing woke culture.

Aside from that we live in strange times. Early access, crowdfunding, more advanced tools and now AI, the talent is simply too diluted with small indie studios being able to make great games but not necessarily match the production value of triple studio in most cases.

I'm old and just rambling I guess. I miss the good old times where the only thing that mattered when making games was fun and quality and not social issues and ways to monitize stuff and that's from someone who more tolerant than most here on both issues.

Not sure how they clean up Naughty Dog and Insomniac at this point. But getting rid of Sweet Baby Inc and a mandate for no identity politics in any form or fashion with an oversight would help.
