They really cut Milchick's balls off in season two. In season one he was riding the line between menacing and disarming without every going too far in either direction. Season 2 everyone gets the better of him time and time again.

Cad confirmed plotfag.

Vince has worked on a number of shows that all had to deliver on a deadline season after season. He's going to take his sweet ass time with this one because he can. I do think this is really a bad show to do that with though. If you want to tell a story that's slow and stuffed to the gills with artful camera work you're doing it a disservice by dragging your ass in between seasons.
I think you can have your 6 minute home depot load up the car and empty stones montage for the grave or you can have slow pacing, you can't have both. If you're going to make the show advance slow as hell and basically go nowhere for several episodes at a time, you can't ALSO have your theater kid stylized interpretive dance scenes.

One or the other. I love the concept of this show I just wish they'd actually do something with it and they're not.

I remember this board being early on Breaking Bad (myself included) and recognizing early that it was a slow burn and loving it (myself included). It didn’t hit right away with the normies but then it picked up and more people took notice as S2 and S3 had increased standard thrills.

I think that’s what people are hoping for here and it feels some are pretentiously calling out people who aren’t enjoying this. That’s fine, but this show so far has been mid to OK and I think for exactly what Cad Cad is pointing out. I’m not some retard that can’t handle slow pacing and build up, but this show has gone nowhere so far and the intellectual questions around the hive are like entry level sci-fi at best (not even joking when I say Rick and Morty have done it better).

I’m not hating on this show, I would love to love it, but it’s mid so far. Hoping it picks up.

I get the frustration at the slow pace but I don't get it after the finale.

Its moving slow but its moving. That south american dude with the name I can never remember is great. As far as I can see S1 is his origin story.

I dunno, maybe they'll go all Lost in S2 like eight fucking years from now or some shit, whenever it airs. But so far its slow but moving.

As previously stated, originally the protagonist was gonna be a man and the entire first season was just gonna be a porn fantasy before he realized he needed to save the world. We see elements of this with diabates storyline.

Since this isn't skinimax, he opted for a female protagonist and settled on a miserable misanthropic dyke lead. He chose rhea for the protagonist and wrote the first 2 episodes for her to read before he even pitched the show.

The first season was always just gonna be establishing the stakes to get the protagonist to commit to fixing things.

Can they cut this bullshit and add more scenes that advance the story?
They still have the Old TV Show mindset where they had 12+ shows a season, and seasons were actually...seasonal. They'd throw in filler for time/budget reasons, and it didn't matter because there were more episodes coming down the pike in short order.

It is particularly noticeable with this show because they effectively only have 1.2 characters....and not very good ones at that. We have Bitchy Carol Who is Always Bitchy, and bits of Oviedo and Zosia. Not very compelling. The only real draw is the mystery with the aliens, and it is impossible to fluff that up with essentially 6/9 episodes being fluff filler as a background to 3 uninteresting characters.

This is on top of not having any real desire to get interested in the show because the next season is 2-3 years away.

It is telling that the top 10 most streamed TV shows of 2025 are all old tv shows. 0 new shows popped into top 10. The 8/3 format doesn't work at all...for any show.

yea, many montages is good for the plot like we see pirate lady, is putting away a body, then changes out and gets on the dudes bike then she flies a military aircraft to get glammed up, just to fly to nm and give carol water

however spending multiple days to film that stupid brunch gathering is worthless.

did you guys know that the nog had to do 100takes of him eating his chicken? yea cuz no one gives a shit

vince gilligan is badly cosplaying as kubrick

Most of the scenes being discussed do serve a purpose. They are only what? 71 days since the alien takeover of earth? They are the last 12 unaffected people left and they are coming to terms with the new world.

It's a little boring I agree but I don't think most of those scenes are as pointless as is being suggested. A little long in the tooth perhaps.

The contrast is important. In the first meeting Carol is all “you people are fucking dumb for going along with this”, admonishes the French dude for taking advantage of this to live out his fantasy, then she herself gets slowly reeled in by the illusion of a relationship with Zosia, only to come to the sobering realization the hive has been gaslighting her and she nearly fell for the allure of the fantasy. The scene with the Peruvian girl really cements this fact, as they drop all pretense the moment she is converted and they ditch the village.

Season 2 in theory should be more focused on a cure/solution, although I suspect the hive will still tempt her. I think one sobering realization will be if they free Zosia and Carol realizes she isn’t “her”
Zosia and she has the moment of dilemma where she craves the fake over the painful reality

i think we've gotten used to big swing Apple TV+ shows like Foundation, Invasion, Silo, Murderbot, For All Mankind, etc so a slower paced, smaller scale (wild thing to say about this show) has a lot of us in a "c'mon... do more" mode.

If we got this kind of show anytime before 2015 I think it would have been wildly unique and different. It doesn't really hit the same in 2025 though after we've gotten stuff like The Expanse, 3 Body Problem, Murderbot, For All Mankind, Andor, Strange New Worlds, etc.

I'd love a galaxy spanning space opera about a Kardashev type 3 civilization that is pruning the dark forest of any intelligence that rises to challenge them, like Reapers, and this is their initial attack vector -- in season 3 we would learn they also dispatched probes and semi-sentient robotic star killers in case the virus didn't work. The Expanse / 3 Body for 2025.

We aren't gonna ever get that. We're gonna get a character drama about the ultimate Karen lesbian who learns that not calling for the manager and doing stuff on your own while living peacefully with others is true happiness. It'll take 5 seasons, and the majority of that time will be 2-3 people talking about being lonely and feelings and some scissoring. The masculine mexican dude will learn to accept getting dick in ass is true masculinity.

Honestly I'm surprised I liked season 1 as much as I did, but so far its a lot of setup and cool wide vista shots and not much people talking, and that is likely not gonna hold up unfortunately. I'm 99% sure I will hate season 2 as their "answers" are nonsense and mostly avoided, so I'm in no rush for them to make it.

I think your points really echo the stuff Fucker Fucker said earlier. If this season we're stretched out to a 20 episode season, sure, throw in long dramatic scenes where nothing really happens. The problem is we got 9 episodes and those super long scenes that didn't move the plot forward make the show just feel underwhelming. There wasn't enough time with all of those to add in enough plot.

And it's actually compounded by his second point where we don't have a new season around the corner for it where at least we could find some kind of forward momentum (or resolution for most mystery shows, which imagine will be part of this eventually). So we get a super short season with long dramatic scenes that are pretty much also irrelevant and the best we can look forward to is another short season with more of the same...3 years from now.

A lot of those other shows were based on an existing IP so the lazy writers had no choice but to move the plot forward. Pluribus is what happens when they don't have any rails and their director has been smelling his farts too much.

I recall trying BB several times. And not 'getting it'. Then came back surgery .....umm #3 (I think) and I had a lot of rehab/down time and I thought 'well fuck it S1 is short and I have a lot of time. I'll watch S1 complete and then I'll either watch them all or say fuck it for good.'

About mid way S1 I thought 'wtf is wrong with me this show is great!'. Pretty sure I even posted it on these here boards in one of their iterations. Same with Better call Saul, I actually almost gave up on it a few times (when he was working his way up to whatever with the cell phones is one I can remember) then they would realize they were losing peeps and pull us all back in.

I really enjoy Pluribus. I'll be around for S2 , whenever it airs.

I was annoyed waiting the weeks for the show to finish so we could binge it, this will completely exit my memory before the next season.

Totally understandable given the wait. The same thing happened to me with Squid Games.

I still haven't watched Squid Games season 2 when I heard they split it up. And then it turns out it sucked. But the reality was season 1 was pretty well self contained and it didn't need a second one.

They could have remade Squid Game Season 1 like 20 times with new games, new participants, new fucked up ways to make them suffer and it'd have been great. The formula was right there. I swear its like these people TRY to fuck up every series.
