Yeah usually the whole "post pictures of mediocre-looking black women" meme is in response to Hollywood DEI-hiring ugly actresses. Doesn't really fit here, unless what you want is super sexy young looking Predators. I'm sure you guys can find that on some R34 sites though.

I haven't seen it mentioned in the thread though it's explained in a lot of places, but this Predator is supposed to look a bit different because he's the runt of the litter, and was exiled by his clan. The plot of the film is him choosing to reclaim his honor and the acceptance of his clan by choosing the deadliest hunting grounds for his first hunt. I think he looks fine in 99% of the trailer shots we see, but of course every article picks the same thumbnail where it looks kind of awkward mid-roaring. You can also see more "normal" looking Predators in the trailer, so obviously the director didn't suddenly forget what their familiar look is supposed to be.

Also lots of people gatekeeping what a Predator is supposed to look like by showing the Jungle Hunter's face in the original Predator, ignoring the fact that almost every Predator looks way different in each movie : City Hunter looked very different already, then there was an entire new sub-species with the Berserker in Predators, then they had giant Predators in The Predator (but that one was pretty terrible for the most part), and then Feral Predator in Prey looked altogether very different again with a completely different facial structure. If anything, it's cool to explore a bit more about various clans or cultures on Yautja Prime (and the director of Prey and Badlands seems to be very invested in Predator lore).

I am not gatekeeping what a predator should look like; I am flat out stating that this one's face done in complete CGI looks like dogshit.

I wasn't pointing to anyone in this thread, just saying what I've seen online about how "that's not a predator at all".

I'm ambivalent on full CGI versus full practical effects.

On the one hand I love the original Stan Winston Predator effects and tend to prefer practical effects in general versus everything CGI, on the other hand CGI allows for some more expressions on the face or other parts, such as the throat and face vibrating in this trailer when he's roaring, which is something the old designs couldn't do, there was a lack of movement on the facial prosthetics at the time.

I think the best should be a large part of prosthetics and practical effects with some subtle touches of CGI for extra effects or specific moments, which is probably something they're going to do at least in part in the film, but some scenes look fully CGI yeah..

I have no idea how you can watch movies from the last 30 years and think that CGI is superior for characters in any way. Outside of Gollum in LOTR, every single CGI insert has felt like a poorly placed compromise because they just didn't want to put in the effort of finding a way to do it practically. They always say that it is cheaper to do CGI; but go watch a season of Face/Off from SyFy and tell me that limited budgets do not drive creative magic. Hell, you can find videos where the predator in Prey was a guy in a suit with a mask, but they used CGI to add little details. That compromise worked out great; so why change it so drastically here, to such lackluster effect?

You're saying exactly what I'm saying, the best way is practical/prosthetics with CGI touch-ups. Full practical is quite restrictive for some outlandish designs in most cases (though there is some superb work out there by talented make-up artists and prop designers), and full CGI tends to fall into the uncanny valley or looks like PS2 cinematics unless it's done spectacularly well, so yeah we agree.

But what about Leia in Rogue One? Nobody can detect which was real and which was fake!

Correct me if I’m wrong but there hasn’t been audio put to the actual language of the predator IMG_6013.jpeg so if they were going to translate what this says if it’s numbers or letters we don’t know

LOTR had legit made up elf language and used it

Star Trek has had Klingon and this video also has avatar language

Will they finally lay claim and put their mark on a language for the predators?

If this truly is a manlet predator and they want the curtain fully pulled back then I picture we will see baby predator and getting picked on then spartan kicked out along with the trailer having the synthetic speaking “you can’t hunt this or can’t be killed” must of been dialogue exchange with the predator

Every movie with more than one predator was always just turn your head sideways or gesture with arms and vocally just lots of yells, growls, and snarls and human mimic reserved for the use with humans but not back n forth

That arm piece is numbers. It started counting down when he activated the mini nuke when he tried to flash cook Arnold in the first movie.

I hope they don't reveal much about Predators except through what we can suss out through their interactions with each other. Them being mysterious is part of what makes them interesting.

In terms of language, they can understand English to some extent, as evidenced by them replaying sound clips in order to terrorize their prey.

Sargon bringing up more reasons why this movie is gonna blow. I'm honestly surprised because he doesn't normally comment on a lot of those sort of stuff, but I guess he probably feels the same way I do being a long time fan since I was a kid. I guess it's the same thing as some of you Star Wars nerds, but now I kind of understand.

From what I read, they actually did just that for this movie, they hired the guy who created the Na'vi language for Avatar, so they could develop a Yautja language that could be used for further lore / future films. I think the soundtrack of the trailer is actually some kind of Yautja chanting (at least I hear the word Yautja in it for sure at some point, and it sounds guttural enough to be their language I suppose).

Lack of aggressively gatekeeping the things we care about is what brought us to the current day where everything fucking blows. So yes, I am going to gatekeep the fuck out of what a predator should look like. It should look like the fucking first two movies and not this faggot shit they put in the trailer and everyone who gives a shit about this franchise should gatekeep with me.

Fuuuuuuck had a feeling and this is major even more so than “it’s my turn to do my take on what the predator should look like”

But then do they go full mask off and we can see the mouth moving or mask on to hide their bad CGI

Should they incorporate the outer mouth as I always figured that’s where the clicks come from or stick to the pussy lol

And I know it’s a countdown as all the characters in the movies figure it out as well but who knows if those are truly numbers or letters stating things

Could be like a program running and it’s code or program script giving predator heads up

System arming….
Some named elements charging….
Fuck those bitches….

We know it is a young Predator from what has been revealed from the script. So long as the design is just him and the older Predators look normal to how we expect them, I don't see the big deal. Species changing appearance as they age is a normal thing. Younger animals (humans included) looking derpy or awkward isn't exactly a fantastical concept

For example: Young crocodile vs. older crocodile

The big deal is that it looks like shit. Why should we accept a derpy looking predator for any reason at all? There are plenty of ways to show something is young or inexperienced without making it look like total garbage. You don't have to make excuses for bad design, just demand better.

i do laugh and love the reason the retardor looks that way is its the result of combining the autism DNA from the last predator movie and all the other predators are now embarrassed by it
