The book explicitly mentions that in a flatscreen era, any display can report anything and thus can all be interchangeable, and points out that he only has mission jumpsuits to wear.

1/10 slop adaptation, do not watch.

But seriously, Grace runs into Rocky's ship only 25% of the way into the book. Including Rocky in trailers isn't a spoiler, that's just separating this movie from the otherwise very similar structurally The Martian.

Edit: In terms of actual issues, I hate / really don't understand his ship redesign. What are those tethers even attached to now on the lab module?

Cant believe the decision to reveal so much given the draw of the cast and author.

Yea I'd be pissed if I hadnt read this and this was in-front of a movie in the theater. Seriously just dont watch if you haven't read the book, its a great story and if the movie does it justice just wait for release.

What the hell does this have to with the Theotokos? False advertising.

I'm interpreting this scene as from when things go ass-up after he flies too close to the Astrophage home planet right now. The ship looks pretty close to the OG design at 1:12, at least from what I can remember.

This will be a great movie. The book is also great. The center of the book is the interaction of Grace and a starfish trope alien that comes from a society of similar technological capacity. Absolutely everything else is different and their perspectives are the fun part.

Really, don't think too much about it. The book isn't deep and philosophical or anything. It is just a feel good save the world story. It doesn't need to be anything more than that.

It looks like the movie ship has that long central section separate from _in between_ the fuel pylons (without hitting them, even when the ship is thrusting at an angle), feed differential lengths of spool (since in docked configuration, those two attachment points arent equidistant from the tether anchors / spools), then rotates that lab section and then stops it?

Compare to book illustration:

If you didn't read the book (like me), I'd probably stop watching that trailer at about 2 minutes. Feels like major spoilers. What the fuck Amazon.
I was planning on listening to the Audio Book so thanks for the heads up, I’ll avoid this thread until then

Critical goes through the book. If you don't want potential spoilers, don't watch.

New trailer out, not sure if the book leans into the funny moments as much. Debating if I should read or watch first

Read the book. It is fantastic and yes, it is very funny at times. Intentionally so.

Even mundane things become pretty funny in it as we get to learn about different things between the two species, lol.

'You sleep, I watch'.

Weir has addressed the consternation about revealing Rocky.
