Kinda silly alien encounter movie. Far too little science on how these microbes could survive space, how rock creatures could move limbs. Also pretty dumb to have a space faring species not know about radiation and also have them be blind with echolocation a far less viable primary form of sense than photosensitivity. How would those rocks even know there is space and stars? They cant hear them. Dumb feelgood movie.

This a good movie for the kids. Like an old family friendly Spielberg or Disney movie. Not really what I was expecting from trailers but pretty consistent from start to finish an 8/10 movie. Not sure why anyone would care about the science explanation for a movie like this as it’s wildly unrealistic and silly, this isn’t the expanse we are talking about here.

The science in the film isn’t that outlandish. The microbes that can perfectly absorb solar output and propelled themselves at relativistic speeds is probably the most improbable thing, but then again so were the ship drives in The Expanse

Watched it again finally. One thing I wished they touched on more was Stratt being essentially the Dictator of Earth like the books. Like she literally nuked the Antarctic to stave off the inevitable. I think its one of those things that got left in the cutting room. I felt there was something missing on how she was able to decide to do that to Grace.
Anyways still thoroughly enjoyed it. Nothing wrong with some upbeat "positive" Sci-Fi.

Absolutely awesome feel-good movie that is satisfying for the whole family to watch. Perfect pacing with sympathetic characters and an entertaining soundtrack.

I finally watched this and am firmly in the camp of not a very good science fiction movie but a fun feel good movie. I think the comment from my wife was along the likes of it being like reading a short story from one of those old science fiction compilations and then hollywooding it up. We enjoyed it for what it is.

There are very few that push any boundaries in science fiction. Some ideas i get a kick out of seeing on screen though. I liked Gattaca, especially the scene where the doctor convinces the parents that they owe it to their child to take advantage of all the medical technology that's available. It's not only plausible, it's topical. Brazil is great if slow in parts and i liked Ex machina as well. Primer, mainly the first half as discovery happens. One of my favorite short stories was about an expedition to a distant planet, when they finally arrived after 200 years of travel it was completely built up already. They sent the crew back to their own time. Anything that touches on that idea gets me. 3 body problem did, and interstellar did as well. I'm waiting for Rendezvous with Rama. It'll never get made it seems, kind of like Mote in God's Eye. Either that or they'll miss the point.
