I actually sighed and thought about how I was going to come and post how much this week's episode sucked BEFORE I watched it.
Then it turned out to be good.
It takes so little for these premises to be a 6/10 and they cannot even do it consistently.

Jerry’s a fun character, so I enjoyed it. It’s no Vat of Acid but it was solid, even compared against good seasons.

Well, the last 3 or 4 episodes were a good enough show for me to watch. Here's hoping that the continue making those and not the absolute abortion that was the first half (plus a few more) of this season where each episode will go down in the bottom 10 of the series.......unless the plumb to new lows in the future.

Same here - been watching Season 8 on HBO over the last week, and it's clear the show is out of ideas.
Oh look - another episode where the characters all use "therapy speak" because that's how the showrunners imagine smart people talk. Hey, now we get an episode where they dig up a character/plotline/setting from Season 1 or 2 for cheap and easy nostalgia. Uh oh - is that another ham-fisted reference to the difficulty of the creative process/writing/making movies and television? Better throw in a stupid, awkward celebrity cameo that would embarrass even the modern Simpsons! If that doesn't work, toss in a poorly-animated, over-the-top fight scene with exactly zero stakes (because Rick cannot possibly lose) - that never gets old!
It's pretty clear that Roiland was the heart and soul of the show - notice they don't do any Interdimensional Cable-type episodes anymore? I expect that's because they can't; without Roiland improvising while voicing Rick and Morty, they don't have the energy or talent to come up with something spontaneous and fresh.
