He's committed to finishing all 5 planned seasons come hell or high water. There's even some name for the "directive" he gave to finish it I saw somewhere. I guess you get to do that when you have that kind of money.
I know its not perfect, often times not even great, but I've enjoyed it so far overall.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is reportedly on-track to run for five seasons, with the $1 billion Prime Video show said to be still under the protection of Amazon boss Jeff Bezos’ “magical halo.”
The new information in this report is that the Tolkien estate is apparently due a $20 million per season kill fee if Amazon fails to deliver on its original five season plan. Sources speaking to The Ankler last year suggested Amazon should cancel the show and move on, insisting it overpaid for Lord of the Rings in the first place. Apparently shows such as Reacher and Fallout are bigger hits than The Rings of Power and cost a lot less to make.
honestly paying $40-60m to kill the show seems way cheaper than spending another $500m+ to finish 2 seasons but I assume they then lose the rights to make LOTR movies, games, etc so maybe there is some calculus there where spending insane amounts of money on a show nobody gives a shit about is somehow worth it. I can't figure it out but i'm not a jew

Meanwhile Embracer bought the film rights in their entirety, merch rights in their entirety, and gaming rights in their entirety from Zaentz for a discount comparatively.
