Sounds like it's aiming to be a little more authentic to the books, based on reading some interviews.

To be honest, I thought the movie was much better than the books. From what I recall, Tom is more of a true sociopathic schemer in the books and doesn't necessarily have the kind of isolation and loneliness that the movie Ripley had. There was a lot more depth in the film, imo. Such a shame Minghella didn't live a longer life.

That said, the trailer looks pretty slick and I'll certainly be interested in it regardless of the path it takes because the book were still good.

Finding this a hard watch. The characters just don’t interact like humans, I feel like I’m watching a bunch of soulless lizard people.

Also, the location is one of the most colourful and beautiful places in Italy and setting it in black and white, while intending to be artistic, feels muted and clipped, just like the aforementioned human interaction.

Really feels they missed the mark on the Ripley character. He's not just an empty vessel.

Having never read the book or watched the movie (I didn't even realize it was talented Mr Ripley until ep2) ...

I'm really liking this. Slow as fuck but I dig. Def not for everyone.

It's a pretty good movie. The books are simpler than the movie or TV show, imo.

Im only 2 episodes in and Im really liking it.

It's slow but thats because it's not a TikTok. It's slow like a 50's movie I guess (not that Im familiar with 50's movies). You can see the actor's reaction through the changes on his face as he influences other characters. I dont need him to have a millenial monologue to tell me what he's thinking.

It's artsy but not pointless. A lot of the camera shots are showing the architecture of New York and Italy which are great. Whereas I thought that Better Call Saul was artsy but pointless.
