how many times do we have to keep hearing "group based mmo" before they actually give us "group based mmo."

I saw this a few years ago not much has changed since. It is SO indie, made by a few 21 year olds. I don't hold much hope. Young people are stupid. Also groups should be smaller so people have to do more. A group of 8 means everyone slacks off because there are multiple healers, multiple tanks, multiple dps, multiple everything. It would be better to have groups of 4 where everyone has to perform multiple roles to survive.

Friend, my apologies and I mean no offense by this reply, however I wanted to post and give you a little information so you could be well informed before bashing a game that is trying to keep to the roots of what MMORPGs used to be. First and foremost I would guess that almost anything is up in the air until it's final and that would include the group size. It does seem like a big number, however they aren't just thinking of just tanks, dps, and healers. That is indeed the holy trinity of most games today, though this game is going to bring back the need for more roles in a party. It's going to slow down the pace and try to not make it a rush to end game. That would definitely mean in my opinion that the game isn't going to be for everyone. It's attempting to make even the smallest thing like traveling from point A to point B an adventure! Some might call it a waste of time or even downright dumb, though some people would enjoy this game play over what is available right now.

Let me give you a very basic for instance...

You're wondering your village after your chores. You see a posting on the town board. A large sum of money is being offered by a merchant for for safe passage of himself, cart, and horses to a large city that is 8 days ride from your town. You gather your friends and among them you have a tank, healer, and dps, however you also have a path finder, carpenter, blacksmith, cook, and oracle. All of these roles will be needed as the trip will take several days to complete and is very dangerous. Without even one of them the entire party could die.

Tank and Dps - To protect the group from harm
Healer - To mend the wounds found on a long journey
Path Finder - To point the way since the roads less traveled are not so easily followed
Carpenter - To fix the merchant's wagon along with your own since you can't carry all your own supplies
Blacksmith - To fix the weapons and tools that will be needed along the trip
Cook - To make food for the party on the long journey to keep the party full of energy
Oracle - To advise the party of their options when it seems like there are none

Obviously this is an over simplified example. I was going to write a little story to go with it, though in all honestly I suck at writing and it was going to take all day and night haha.

All I ask is that you give it a look and ask questions before bashing it.

No I'm not one of the devs, I am however one of the backers as I personally believe we need to back as many of these types of games as we can. Even if not for ourselves, for the kids growing up in today's MMO culture. These types of games will bring people together and help grow friendships that will last long into the future. I say this from experience as I still know and talk to people that I used to game with 18-20 years ago. Though I can't even recall one name from a more recent game as none of them require team work.

Lastly, the devs aren't anywhere near 21, we both know looks can be deceiving. The team is indeed small however and it will take awhile to complete, however with enough drive, determination, and support from the fans it will happen.

Very suspicious of this poster.. But seriously, you'd be better just posting as a dev, most likely T.W?

Oh bullshit just say you are on the dev team and get it over with. It will carry more weight.

This entire game looks like Peter Molyneux just did some meth and had a few kids to develop games with him.

You have to bear in mind that most people here have heard this stuff 100 times before from games with 50 million dollar budgets and they still turned out to be bs. I think indie games are the future and the only saving grace but I also know that 99% of them suck. I know because I've played 100 and only 1 was good. For what its worth I did thoroughly research this game a while back and it had 100000 features that any big budget MMO would dream of having. In other words this game is the Trump of MMO's. It promises a million things and if it even ends up having 1 of them I'll be amazed.

Sir, I approve of your suspiciousness lol as there are a lot of frauds out there however I am definitely not one of them. Just an semi older gamer with a glint of hope in his eye. This game and Pantheon are the only two games that are attempting to do something like this. Again not for everyone... though any hope is better than none in my opinion.

Just because I have something to prove to the internet. :)

Please see above. I'm not sure who Peter M is, though if I get bored I might google him later. In all reality it doesn't really matter if my post it carries weight with anyone here sir. I'm just hoping that us as responsible gamers will do our part and help each other out by researching the games and come to a reasonable conclusion. I honestly can't make anyone believe me, people have to use their own judgement with the evidence presented.

Unity the MMO or as they're more commonly known, dreams that will never be realized.

Yeah, I agree and don't know how they are going to get around the fact that a MMORPG has never been made with Unity. I'm a DBA and a relational DBA at that so I can't even pretend to understand anything about the complications that may be had with that. I just know people have made more with less in the history of gaming, so I have hope it can be done. :)

I whole heartily agree with you, my wife and I have also been caught by so many early access games that went no where. So we definitely are on your side or at least feel your pain as gamers. Though I'm not entirely sure where you're getting 100000 features from, there is a decent sized list, though they aren't all going to be made available at the start. Below is a link to a new post that is attempting set expectations for what they are trying to accomplish. I personally feel that the development so far has been very open compared to other games even a similar development projects such as Pantheon(which we have are also backing from the beginning and there is so much negativity around that project).

Tank and Dps - To protect the group from harm

Carpenter - To fix the merchant's wagon along with your own since you can't carry all your own supplies

Cook - To make food for the party on the long journey to keep the party full of energy
Oracle - To advise the party of their options when it seems like there are none

In case this isn't one gigantic troll, let me tell you how this turns out in the real world.

Tank and DPS with a healer will blow passed the "boring shit" you throw on a road to stop a wagon from getting from point A to point B over the course of two days. (I am assuming in game this is 5 hours?) Of which everyone will quit out of boredom of guiding a wagon down a path after an hour and wonder why they are even doing it. (Because as we all know everyone loves escort quests - may as well give them a long one!) The Carpenter will be killed because the dude will go flailing off trying to fix the wagon that broke down about 2 miles behind the tank and DPS as they are dispatching enemies way faster than the wagon moves. Carpenter gets ambushed by some random roaming mob and dies. Pathfinder has his thumb up his ass because everyone already looked up the path on google and already know where to go and have the map up on their second screen. The Blacksmith and Cook just sit there for an hour doing jack shit because no one needs food until they actually need food, and unless weapon duration is 50% break points within 1 minute, the blacksmith will be off playing World of Warcraft on another screen and when you need him, will be in a raid in Legion and Tank and DPS will die.

The oracle, however, is me. And when it seems like there are no other options, there are. Don't buy this game and play something else because everything is pie in the sky BS and won't ever come to fruition.

The oracle has spoken.

And while I admire their approach and just trying to make a game in their spare time...

Our goal is to have enough content with core features in place by our launch that there is a minimum of a year’s worth of “things to do” in place for the average player, giving us a buffer to then push content updates out every few months and continually stay ahead of the curve.

Good luck with that. Most players will blow through your shit in less than 3 weeks. They will then quit until 2-3 months goes by and they will blow through that in less than a week. It always happens, it always will happen.

Peter Molyneux is Randy Pitchford's uncle and Sean Murray's daddy.

Haha, thanks for the story! And you could be entirely right. I guess only time will tell.
