1st and 2nd act were classic scream. 3rd act was great but dragged on and I spaced out after some of the twists.

the runtime of nearly 2 full hours probably could have been cut to 1h40m and done a lot for the 3rd act. there were a lot of minutes of rambling and fan service 4th wall breaking stuff that tended to run on and it lost potency in the climax. I'd shave a bunch of stuff out of the final exchange. pick an ending and punctuate it, don't masturbate the ending slowly. Needed more pop, less drag. this movie would have hit a lot harder with little 20 second edit here, a little 30 second chop there. Just needed a facelift for pacing in the climax.

overall id say its in the top scream movies but needed an edit. this movie is highly reviewed and highly rated, and I'd say my experience was consistent with that.

Binged all recently in prep for this. The first is still the best, although it comes across as straight parody now. The rest, including this, are fine. Nothing really special, but worth a watch each.

Wasn't the original supposed to be funny/horror but the cast thought it was supposed to be a straight horror/slasher and didn't realized why the characters were so bonkers? Pretty sure once the actors saw the final product then they got what Wes was going for.

Regardless Scream was a great slasher. The cast was fantastic especially Lillard

It started out as a self-aware, meta deconstructive take on horror movies. But watching the first now, it feels closer to Scary Movie than perhaps it should. It's more funny than it is scary.

the original was a solid movie with a lot of pokes and jokes about the horror genre. This one should make fun of remakes and revivals of 30 year old franchises

They did. I just didn't care for it and would have edited that part down.

They directly addressed the audience, remakes, revivals, etc in the climax.

Our boy Dewey got chumped in this, they should have shit on Gale instead.

They were right about one thing, these franchises do need a name villain. Doesn't have to be a person but an icon like Jigsaw, which the ghostface mask is not.

Melissa Barrera is no longer starring in Scream VII. The actor was dropped from the project after a series of social media posts in the wake of the Israel-Hamas War.

“Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp,” she wrote in one post on Instagram stories. “Cornering everyone together, with no where to go, no electricity no water … People have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”
