not really what I expected, it looks way less GOTG/etc and more like ... well, a CW show or Crazy Rich Superheroes

Yeah I saw it elsewhere and the first thing I thought is it looks like a Jet Li movie with a real hollywood budget.

yeah i guess more CW with the bus and awkafina stuff, i really dislike that voice. I've been on a recent bender of Kung Fu movies on Netflix (all of Ip Man and its spinoffs are on there) and yeah, thats dead on. Not at all what I expected in an MCU movie but could be interesting i guess. I thought it was gonna be way more mystical/paranormal, but had no reason to expect that

might also see a Ms Marvel and Hawkeye D+ TV show sneak into the 2021/2022 timeframe. Then 2022 has Thor 4, Doctor Strange 2, Captain Marvel 2, Into the Spiderverse 2, Ant-Man 3, Morbius, and Black Adam although I think a few of those are 2023. Plus unannounced D+ MCU shows.

Looks awesome to me. Need more kungfu shows. Hopefully the fighting is as good as in Warrior. Awkwafina is funny so hopefully she has a good sidekick role like Michael Pena in Ant-Man

Yeah. Looks like a Kung Fu movie on a Disney budget with the obligatory Marvel quipping/comic relief, which is a formula I can get behind. I am in.

No one had any trouble with Rose Tico T-boning her bodyfriend on the salt flats in a convertible with no safety features of any kind. Movies says no one got hurt, can't use it against them.

It looks great, and I'm excited to see it. I love the Shang-Chi comics as a kid.

That said, zero interest in seeing this in theaters. That's not a movie I feel requires the theater experience. I'll wait for it on Disney+.

idk. I did forget what forum I was in, and didnt realize this was a movie, and not a TV series till the end, and saw spronks in theatres date.

Holy shit, they have Razor-fist! That's literally the one thing I remember from my couple of Shang-Chi comics as a kid. That alone makes me want to watch it.

Also, I can't stand Awkwafina. She almost ruined Raya and the Last Dragon for me when she first appeared and started spouting hip/cool kid stuff as a fucking magical dragon. Also also, did she come up with her name before or after the bottled water Aquafina?

I look forward to the next Asian superstar, Gayduraid.

She was 6 when Aquafina brand was created. I also hated the dragon in Rays and stopped watching it after a few minutes of it. I didn’t know it was her until later but I don’t care, it ruined the tone of the movie for me. Anyone doing that routine would’ve sucked, it was annoying.

Awkwafina does seem to be everywhere these days, but I'm generally fine with that. This was a suitably impressive trailer and I'm very much looking forward to getting Real Mandarin instead of Trevor. Should tie nicely into Iron Man 1 as well so that's fun.

Wait, so her parents actually named her that??

To be fair, Raya gets a lot better once you get past that part. Not an amazing movie by any stretch, but way better than that scene at least.
